Diurnal Patterns of the Bi-Directional Reflectance of Fresh-Water Ice

open access: yes, 2017
To improve the interpretation of surface cryospheric albedo from satellite sensor data, diurnal measurements of the spectral bi-directional reflectance of a commonly-found fresh-water ice type were made, from which hemispherical reflectance can be ...

A Universal BRDF Archetype Database for Normalizing Directional Reflectance to Nadir BRDF Adjusted Reflectance

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Surface reflectance varies with changes in solar and viewing angles, exhibiting distinct anisotropic reflectance characteristics, which can be characterized using the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF).

Deriving albedo maps for HAPEX-Sahel from ASAS data using kernel-driven BRDF models [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 1999
This paper describes the application and testing of a method for deriving spatial estimates of albedo from multi-angle remote sensing data. Linear kernel-driven models of surface bi-directional reflectance have been inverted against high spatial ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Directional reflectance microscopy of stainless steel

open access: yes, 2020
The usage of stainless steel and its alloys, particularly SS 316L, over the years are consistently high due to the desirable combination of its high corrosion resistance and ease of fabrication.

Steady-state directional diffuse reflectance and fluorescence of human skin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present numerical simulations predicting the directional diffuse reflectance and autofluorescence from human skin. Skin is modeled as a seven-layered medium, with each layer having its own optical properties and fluorophore concentrations.

An automated and unbiased grain segmentation method based on directional reflectance microscopy

open access: yes, 2021
Identifying individual grains from sectioned polycrystalline metals is a foundational task of microstructure analysis. However, traditional grain segmentation methods applied to optical micrographs may suffer from the lack of optical contrast between ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.
