The global burden of neglected zoonotic diseases: Current state of evidence
The majority of emerging infectious diseases are zoonoses, most of which are classified as “neglected”. By affecting both humans and animals, zoonoses pose a dual burden.

Cross-national agreement on disability weights: the European Disability Weights Project
Background Disability weights represent the relative severity of disease stages to be incorporated in summary measures of population health. The level of agreement on disability weights in Western European countries was investigated with different ...

Simple Analytics of Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYS) [PDF]
Disability adjusted life years lost (DALYs) are one of the most usual health outcome metrics in environmental and health assessments and cost-effectiveness or cost/benefit analysis of interventions in those two areas. The methodology for DALYs' calculation has been evolving under the Global Burden of Disease Project.

Burden of myocardial infarction attributable to road-traffic noise: A pilot study in Belgrade
The aim of this pilot study was to calculate the disability-adjusted life years (DALY) as a quantification of the burden of myocardial infarction (MI) attributable to road-traffic noise in Belgrade, Serbia. Exposure to road-traffic noise was estimated on

Using surveys to calculate disability-adjusted life-year
Mapping a certain disease into a system of disabling attributes allows researchers to compare diseases within a common framework. To quantify the total burden of morbidity (e.g., morbidity attributable to alcohol use), so-called disability weights (DWs) must be generated. General-population surveys can be used to derive DWs from health valuation tasks.

Burden of disease, disability-adjusted life years and frailty prevalence [PDF]
Burden of disease (BoD) using disability-adjusted life years (DALY) is a useful summary measure of population health and estimates are provided for Ireland annually. We hypothesized that BoD may be used as a predictor of frailty prevalence. To examine the correlation between frailty measured by the accumulation of deficits (frailty index, FI) and Fried ...
