Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Maximizing Opinion Polarization Using Double Deep Q-Learning in Social Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access
Social media networks, such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), have become crucial platforms for public discourse, but they also contribute to the rise of misinformation and opinion polarization.

Éléments sur l’acceptabilité socio-technique d’une politique environnementale : le cas de la restauration de la continuité écologique des cours d’eau

open access: yesTerritoire en Mouvement, 2019
The argument of this paper is that the notion of social acceptability, often invoked in development and environmental management projects, is incomplete. Thinking in terms of social acceptability does not address scientific and technical issues. Sciences

La mise en scène de l’Autre dans les tragédies de Voltaire

open access: yesArts et Savoirs, 2023
Based on four tragedies created between 1732 and 1755, the aim is to see how Voltaire questions the model of civilisation carried by the Enlightenment, by means of a diversion.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The Self-Undermining Arguments from Disagreement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Arguments from disagreement against moral realism begin by calling attention to widespread, fundamental moral disagreement among a certain group of people. Then, some skeptical or anti-realist-friendly conclusion is drawn.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

‘Peer Disagreement’ and Evidence of Evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
What the rational thing to do in the face of disagreement by an epistemic peer is has been much discussed recently. Those who think that a peer’s disagreement is itself evidence against one’s belief, as many do, are committed to a special form of ...
