Different effects of abnormal mechanical stress on temporomandibular joint cartilage, subchondral bone, and discs

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
BackgroundTemporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) is a group of diseases occurring in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with clinical manifestations of pain in the joint area, mastication disorders, and restriction of mouth opening, which is one of the ...

Inclined Massive Planets in a Protoplanetary Disc: Gap Opening, Disc Breaking, and Observational Signatures

open access: yes, 2018
We carry out 3D hydrodynamical simulations to study planet–disc interactions for inclined high-mass planets, focusing on the disc’s secular evolution induced by the planet.

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Evolution of Spin Direction of Accreting Magnetic Protostars and Spin-Orbit Misalignment in Exoplanetary Systems: II. Warped Discs

open access: yes, 2010
Magnetic interactions between a protostar and its accretion disc tend to induce warping in the disc and produce secular changes in the stellar spin direction, so that the spin axis may not always be perpendicular to the disc.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Does the mass distribution in discs influence encounter-induced losses in young star clusters?

open access: yes, 2014
One mechanism for the external destruction of protoplanetary discs in young dense clusters is tidal disruption during the flyby of another cluster member.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.
