Characteristics Analysis of TBM Disc Cutter Ring

Advanced Materials Research, 2010
Disc cutter is the key part in Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). Wear and tear of disc cutter is the main reason of low efficiency and high cost of this machine. Forces and deformations of disc cutter ring are foundation for its design and assembly. In this paper, the analysis of stress and deformation are carried to study their distribution; Wear mechanism

On the Cookie-Cutter Game: Search and Evasion on a Disc

Mathematics of Operations Research, 1990
In the cookie-cutter game, there is a trapping circle, of radius 1, in which an evader hides. A searcher has a “cookie-cutter”, a disk of radius r < 1. If, when he places the cookie-cutter on the trapping circle, the evader is within it, the evader is caught and the searcher wins. Otherwise the evader wins. If r = √2/2, the problem is trivial. The

Discussion on the Robotic Approach of Disc Cutter Replacement for Shield Machine

2020 IEEE International Conference on Real-time Computing and Robotics (RCAR), 2020
Modern Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) or Shield Machine is a large-scale intelligent tunnel engineering equipment which highly integrates machinery, electricity, fluid, control and information technology. During the tunnel construction, the cutting tools assembled onto the cutter head need to be replaced frequently due to the wear by rocks in complex ...

The Simulation Analysis of the TBM Disc Cutter Phase Angle

2010
A series of numerical experiments was performed to simulate rock fragmentation by TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) disc cutter. We used the large non-linear dynamic finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA to simulate three-dimensional dynamic process of two disc cutters cutting soft rock.

A Theoretical Model for Estimating the Wear of the Disc Cutter

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011
In this paper a method for evaluating the slip speed in rolling contact is introduced from the contact mechanics viewpoint. Based on the analysis of the wear factors of the disc cutter, a theoretical model which includes disc cutter structural parameters and boring parameters is proposed to estimate the wear of the disc cutter in normal wear conditions.

A recent application—the driven disc cutter

Journal of Terramechanics, 1984
INTRODUCTION THE accompanying paper by A. R. Reece describes a new type of submarine cable plough in which a wedge sectioned slice o f soil is cut out by one or more disc cutters, and this is shown in Fig. 6 o f t h a t paper. The disc shown in that figure is a simple trial device, the final design being much more complicated, including a spring ...

Prediction of the performance of disc cutters in anisotropic rock

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1985
Abstract The geological structural features of a rock mass not only affect its strength and deformability but also its cuttability and drillability. Results of wedge penetration tests and disc cutting experiments on rocks with distinctive strength anisotropy clearly show that anisotropy and discontinuities have to be fully taken into account to ...

Embolization of Disc Occluder of a Wada-Cutter Mitral Prosthesis with Survival

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1976
The second recorded survivor following emergency prosthesis replacement after embolization of the Teflon disc occluder of a Wada-Cutter mitral valve is reported. Difficulties encountered while attempting to locate the missing occluder are presented and a useful operative technique for aortic control is described.

Impact of Cleaning Efficiency on Disc Cutter Drilling Performance

Volume 9: Offshore Geotechnics; Petroleum Technology, 2023
Abstract Large diameter drilling operations, including tunnel boring and raise boring, are capital-intensive projects. As such, proper estimation of time and cost is critical to the planning of the drilling project. To arrive at the correct estimation of the drilling time during the drilling phase, accurate prediction of the drilling ...

Analysis of Disc Cutter Wear Based on the Theory of Energy

2020 9th International Conference on Power Science and Engineering (ICPSE), 2020
A disc cutter is the main breaking rock tool on the cutterhead of the full face hard rock boring machine. It directly contacts the rock and undergoes significant wear and tear. The disc cutter loses the capacity to break rock when it reaches its wear limit, so its construction efficiency can be improved if its degree of wear and tear can be predicted ...
