Apoptosis in Displaced Temporomandibular Joint Disc with and without Reduction: An Immunohistochemical Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Internal derangement (ID) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is due to an abnormal relationship of the articular disc to the mandibular condyle, glenoid fossa and articular eminence.

Age-dependent Deformation of the Optic Nerve Head and Peripapillary Retina by Horizontal Duction. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
PURPOSE: To study effects of age and horizontal duction on deformation of the optic nerve head (ONH) and peripapillary retina (PPR), as reflected by displacement of vascular landmarks, to explore the influence of adduction tethering.

Galactic seismology: joint evolution of impact-triggered stellar and gaseous disc corrugations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Evidence for wave-like corrugations are well established in the Milky Way and in nearby disc galaxies. These were originally detected as a displacement of the interstellar medium about the midplane, either in terms of vertical distance or vertical velocity. Over the past decade, similar patterns have emerged in the Milky Way's stellar disc.

Vascular complications of prosthetic inter-vertebral discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Five consecutive cases of prosthetic inter-vertebral disc displacement with severe vascular complications on revisional surgery are described. The objective of this case report is to warn spinal surgeons that major vascular complications are likely with ...

Effects of disc asymmetries on astrometric measurements - Can they mimic planets? [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 592, A39 (2016), 2016
Astrometry covers a parameter space that cannot be reached by RV or transit methods to detect terrestrial planets on wide orbits. In addition, high accuracy astrometric measurements are necessary to measure the inclination of the planet's orbits. Here we investigate the principles of an artefact of the astrometric approach.

A Virgo Environmental Survey Tracing Ionised Gas Emission (VESTIGE).XI. Two dimensional H$α$ kinematics of the edge-on ram pressure stripped galaxy NGC 4330 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Using the VESTIGE survey, a deep narrow-band H$\alpha$ imaging survey of the Virgo cluster carried on at the CFHT with MegaCam, we discovered a long diffuse tail of ionised gas in the edge-on late-type galaxy NGC 4330. This peculiar feature witnesses an ongoing ram pressure stripping (RPS) event able to remove the gas in the outer disc region.

Lubricin Immunohistochemical Expression in Human Temporomandibular Joint Disc with Internal Derangement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Lubricin is a chondroprotective, mucinous glycoprotein which contribute to joint lubrication, especially to boundary lubrication and maintains joint integrity.

The impact of bar origin and morphology on stellar migration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Different mechanisms driving bar structure formation indicate that bar origins should be distinguishable in the stellar populations of galaxies. To study how these origins affect different bar morphologies and impact stellar orbits and migration, we analyse three simulated discs which are representative of bar formation under isolated evolution ...

A Tetris-like Model Showing a Universal Enhanced Flow Rate of a Hopper Discharging Hard Discs Through an Adjustable Inclusion [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Soc. Jpn., Vol. 87, No. 11, 114401 (2018), 2018
In the literature, placing an inclusion near the orifice of a hopper, containing disc particles, has been experimentally and numerically reported to locally enhance the gravity-driven hopper flow rate. Moreover, the peaked flow rate can happen regardless of the interparticle friction, the inclusion geometry, or the disc dispersity.

Global Body Posture Evaluation in Patients with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
AIM: To identify the relationship between anterior disc displacement and global posture (plantar arches, lower limbs, shoulder and pelvic girdle, vertebral spine, head and mandibles).
