DISCOVERY OF THE FIRST SUPER-LITHIUM RICH BEAT CEPHEID: V371 PER

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2012
Four high-resolution spectra of the double-mode Cepheid V371 Per, obtained for the first time, showed the presence of the abnormally strong Li i 6707.76 Å line.

Angular momentum of disc galaxies with a lognormal density distribution [PDF]

open access: yesMNRAS 453, 2214--2219 (2015), 2015
By postulating that the majority of the mass and angular momentum of a disc galaxy is confined to the disc with a lognormal surface density distribution, and that galactic discs are substantially, if not fully, self-gravitating, it may be shown that the resultant rotation curves (RCs) display a good overall fit to observational data for a wide range of

Developing and adult reef fish show rapid light‐induced plasticity in their visual system

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 167-181, January 2023., 2023
Abstract The visual capabilities of fish are optimized for their ecology and light environment over evolutionary time. Similarly, fish vision can adapt to regular changes in light conditions within their lifetime, e.g., ontogenetic or seasonal variation.

Observational Tests of Active Galactic Nuclei Feedback: An Overview of Approaches and Interpretation

open access: yesGalaxies
Growing supermassive black holes (Active Galactic Nuclei; AGN) release energy with the potential to alter their host galaxies and larger-scale environment; a process named “AGN feedback”.

Structure and kinematics of edge-on galaxy discs -- V. The dynamics of the stellar discs [PDF]

open access: yesMon.Not.Roy.Astron.Soc. 358 (2005) 503-520, 2005
In earlier papers in this series we determined the intrinsic stellar disc kinematics of fifteen intermediate to late type edge-on spiral galaxies using a dynamical modeling technique. From the photometry we find that intrinsically more flattened discs tend to have a lower face-on central surface brightness and a larger dynamica mass-to-light ratio ...

A Review of Ga₂O₃ Heterojunctions for Deep‐UV Photodetection: Current Progress, Methodologies, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This paper provides a comprehensive review of the existing literature related to the fundamentals of gallium oxide (Ga2O3), growth methods, substrates, and particularly a focused examination of Ga2O3‐based heterojunctions. Particular attention has also been given to the state‐of‐the‐art Ga2O3‐based heterojunctions for photodetectors. The key challenges

Towards understanding the dynamics of the bar/bulge region in our Galaxy

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
I review some of the work on bars which is closely linked to the bar/bulge system in our Galaxy. Several independent studies, using totally independent methods, come to the same results about the 3D structure of a bar, i.e., that a bar is composed of a ...

Nuclear stellar discs in early-type galaxies --- II. Photometric properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Hubble Space Telescope images of two early-type galaxies harboring both nuclear and outer stellar discs are studied in detail. By means of a photometric decomposition, the images of NGC 4342 and NGC 4570 are analyzed and the photometric properties of the nuclear discs investigated.

Multiarm spirals on the periphery of disc galaxies

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2018
Abstract Spiral patterns in some disc galaxies have two arms in the centre, and three or more arms on the periphery. The same result is also obtained in numerical simulations of stellar and gaseous discs. We argue that such patterns may occur due to fast cooling of the gas, resulting in formation of giant molecular clouds.
