Lateral Lumbar Disc Herniations

Journal of Spinal Disorders, 1992
True far lateral (extraforaminal) lumbar disc herniations are not rare. Diagnosis can be strongly suspected when high or mid-lumbar radiculopathies present clinically; diagnosis can be confirmed by computerized tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging.

Disc Herniation With Gas

Spine, 1994
Intradiscal gas is associated with tumors, infection, trauma, therapeutic and diagnostic spinal procedures, deposit illnesses, and disc degeneration. The existence of gas within the spinal canal has been seen on 17 occasions, of which 13 were associated with discal hernias. In this study, 19 additional patients with intraspinal gas corresponding to ...

Thoracic intradural disc herniation

British Journal of Neurosurgery, 2007
Intradural disc herniation is a well-recognized entity in the lumbar region, where over 90% of all intradural herniations are seen.1 By contrast, fewer than 5% occur in either the cervical or thoracic regions.1 We describe a case of a sudden onset neurological deficit caused by an intradural thoracic disc herniation at the T11-T12 level, the intradural

Disc Herniation and Radiculopathy

2008
Sciatica has been known since antiquity, but the relationship between sciatica and disc herniation was not discovered until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1934, Mix er and Barr were the first to describe this correlation in their landmark paper [95]. At that time, herniated discs were removed by a transdural approach.

Intradural Herniated Lumbar Disc

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1969
UPTURE of the intervertebral disc in the lumbar spine most often occurs to one or the other side of the strong posterior longitudinal ligament. Rarely the central part of the ligament itself is perforated. Even more rare is the observation that the disc material has ruptured through the anterior aspect of the spinal dura and is displaced intrathecally.
