Partial Discharge Modelling Based on a Cylindrical Model in Solid Dielectrics

open access: yes, 2008
Partial discharges (PDs) are harmful to electrical insulation as they may degrade the material. Consequently, a lot of efforts have been made to develop suitable systems for PD measurements and monitoring.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Influence of Electric Discharges on Bearings of Electric Machina

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2008
Bearing currents are one of cause’s bearings faults. The character of a lubricator belongs to main factor influencing an inception of bearing currents. We have analyzed the electric character variety kind of lubricators; the influence of lubricators on a

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Plasma breakdown of low-pressure gas discharges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Natural gas discharges like lightning and polar light are spectacular phenomena that have impressed and fascinated people for a long time. During the last two centuries, people have learned how to create their own gas discharges and how to make use of ...

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

A mathematical analysis of electrical discharges [PDF]

open access: yesQuarterly of Applied Mathematics, 2002
This paper uses fluid models to study the behaviour of charged and neutral particles in systems arising in electrical discharges. The existence and uniqueness of the solution, local in time, is proved in a bounded domain for a drift-diffusion-Poisson system when coupled with the isothermal Euler system with the momentum prescribed on the boundary.

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation
