Four—New York, Boston, London and the San Francisco Bay Area—now host 12% of the world's top scientists. In contrast, the Global South remains largely absent, with the notable exception of Beijing's dramatic rise.

Journal of Leadership Studies, Volume 19, Issue 4, Winter 2026.Popular leadership ideas gain influence through clarity and certainty, often at the expense of nuance and theoretical depth. This paper examines the tension between popular leadership discourse and scholarly research, drawing on Bourdieu's field theory to explain why visibility and charisma tend to outweigh rigor in the marketplace of ideas.
