EVALUATION OF DISCOMFORT GLARE IN ROAD LIGHTING USING FIXED LOW MOUNTING HEIGHT LUMINAIRES

CIE x050:2023 Proceedings of the 30th Session of the CIE, Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 15 – 23, 2023, Volume 1, 2023
An experiment was conducted in a dark room to clarify the evaluation method for suppressing discomfort glare for fixed low mounting height luminaires lighting system (LMHL) in road lighting.

Spectral discomfort glare sensitivity investigations

Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, 2010
The main concern of car headlamp manufacturers is to provide better visibility. Unfortunately, by increasing the luminous intensity of the headlamp, the risk of increasing discomfort glare for the other road users increases. One possibility to increase visibility and decrease glare could be the selection of a spectral power distribution for the ...

Discomfort Glare: Range Effects

Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society, 1981
Forty paid observers made adjustments to the borderline between comfort and discomfort (BCD). A random half of the observers adjusted a glare source with a maximum luminance of 300,000 fL, the other half a glare source with a maximum luminance of 30,000 fL. The mean BCD in the first case was 26,900 fL, in the other it was 3,860 fL.

Discomfort glare indices: a comparative study

Applied Optics, 1994
From the luminance distribution measured with a stereoluminancemeter we have studied the variation in the principal indices of discomfort glare while considering the orientation of the line of vision of the observer and the limiting luminance of the glare source.

Discomfort glare measurement

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
In the paper some results of research on discomfort glare measurement are described. The idea of practical realization of this measurement in interiors on the basis of the analysis of the investigated room image is presented. To obtain the necessary geometric quantities the coordinates of proper pixels in the image and some parameters of the imaging ...

Discomfort Glare from Automobile Headlights

Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society, 1984
Three studies are described concerning discomfort glare arising from automotive headlamps. Two issues were of principle concern, (1) the so-called “range effect,” and (2) the relationship between laboratory and field findings concerning glare. The first study was conducted in a laboratory and was designed to evaluate the range effect and subject age. A

Refractive blur's influence on discomfort glare perception from white LED headlights at night.

Journal of The Optical Society of America A-optics Image Science and Vision
This study examined the effects of refractive blur on discomfort perception caused by peripheral glare from white LED passing (low)-beam headlights at night.

Discomfort Glare from Highway Lighting

Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society, 1980
The question addressed in this report is whether the subjective appraisal of discomfort glare caused by highway lighting can be reasonably predicted from a photometrically based formula. The photometric measurements required for the Adrian-Schreuder glare control mark formula were made on four Toronto installations.

DISCOMFORT FROM GLARE: WHY WE NEED A CIE TECHNICAL COMMITTEE TO REPORT ON BEST PRACTISE FOR COMMONLY USED METHODS AND TO PROPOSE NEW METHODS

CIE x050:2023 Proceedings of the 30th Session of the CIE, Ljubljana, Slovenia, September 15 – 23, 2023, Volume 1, 2023
The objective of this presentation is to promote awareness of some of the difficulties found when measuring subjective evaluation of discomfort from glare, thus to encourage support for and participation in work to report on best practise when measuring ...

Glare Discomfort and Pupil Diameter

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1956
A limited study has shown that the diameter of the pupil of the eye is not related directly to the sensation of discomfort which results from a bright light source in the field of view. Other factors, especially the illumination received at the eye, govern the pupil diameter.
