A Direct Digital Technique Implementation of General Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation Strategy
This paper presents direct digital technique-generalized discontinuous pulse width modulation (PWM) - a new implementation method for an optimal discontinuous PWM (DPWM) in terms of switching losses of the inverter on an embedded system. At each sampling period, an optimal choice is done in order to clamp one of the three half-bridges.

This paper proposes a neutral-point voltage balancing method for a three-level inverter that uses discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). The performance of a three-level inverter system is affected by the neutral-point voltage unbalancing. Therefore, the voltages of series connected dc-link capacitors should be equal.

Soft-switched discontinuous pulse-width pulse-density modulation scheme
2016 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2016This paper presents a soft-switched discontinuous pulse-width pulse-density modulation (PWPDM) scheme to decrease the switching losses of the capacitor-less high-frequency pulsating dc-link (HFPDCL) inverters. The proposed modulation scheme employs both pulse-width modulation (PWM) and pulse-density modulation (PDM) schemes to increase the overall ...

An efficient discontinuous pulse width modulation algorithm for multileg voltage-source converters
2011 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2011This paper presents a scalable and effective discontinuous pulse width modulation algorithm for multileg converters. The method can also be used in three- and four-leg voltage-source converters, though its simplicity in comparison to so called vector modulators shows up clearly in systems with more than three legs.

Advanced Double Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulated Three-Phase Power Converter
Three-phase bi-directional ac-dc converters are required to have high efficiency. To improve efficiency, it is required to decrease the number of switching transition. Therefore, a novel switching or pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy is proposed in this paper, where two phases are not switching in a switching period. To achieve this, an extra diode

Power loss study of inverter-fed machine drives using Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation
2008 IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies, 2008This paper presents a power loss study of a machine drive system using discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) excitation. Pspice modeling has been used in the inverter loss prediction, and for the machine loss analysis, finite element analysis (FEA) is employed.

Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation Techniques for Modular Multilevel Converter
2020 IEEE International Students' Conference on Electrical,Electronics and Computer Science (SCEECS), 2020Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has already been strongly found its application in high voltage applications, and is lately been explored in medium voltage applications. The modulation techniques play an important role in the performance of the MMC in terms of the output fundamental component, distortions and the switching losses.

Origin-shifted multilevel discontinuous pulse width modulation
The Fifth International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2003. PEDS 2003., 2004Pulse width modulation of two-level power converters is presently well established with most reported strategies focusing on the minimisation of line voltage harmonic distortion. For multilevel inverter modulation, additional performance merits can be achieved through the proper selection of available redundant switching states. This paper presents the
