The Aquarelle resource discovery system

Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1998
Aquarelle is a three-year project supported by the Telematics Applications Programme of the European Union, aiming at designing a resource discovery system on the Internet, applied to cultural heritage documentation. The system relies on the Z39.50 protocol to support access to heterogeneous databases, including SGML document repositories.

Microchemical Systems for Discovery and Development

2007
Applications of silicon-based microreactors are summarized starting with systems for single-phase organic transformations and progressing through multiphase catalytic systems to microsystems for multistep chemical synthesis. The latter systems involve extraction and gas-liquid separation processes designed to take advantage of the dominance of surface ...

A Survey of Web Service Discovery Systems

International Journal of Information Technology and Web Engineering, 2007
Web services form the core of e-business and hence, have experienced a rapid development in the past few years. This has led to a demand for a discovery mechanism for Web services. Discovery is the most important task in the Web service model because Web services are use-less if they cannot be discovered. A large number of Web service discovery systems

Knowledge discovery for evolutionary systems

Proceedings Fourth International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence TAI '92, 2003
The issues addressed include using a database query to discover a new rule, using not only positive examples (answer to a query) but also negative examples to discover new rules, and harmonizing a new rule and previous rules to remove inconsistencies. The main contribution is the development of a new tool for characterizing the exceptions in databases ...

Discovery of the Biology of the Ubiquitin System

JAMA, 2014
This article, about the discovery of the biology of the ubiquitin system, describes my laboratory’s main contribution to date, and stems, in part, from previous historical summaries. Another antecedent is the interview given in 2006 to Dr Istvan Hargittai, a distinguished Hungarian chemist. It described my life and science, including the early years in

Automated Discovery Systems and Scientific Realism

Minds and Machines, 2002
Summary: In the paper I explore the relations between a relatively new and quickly expanding branch of artificial intelligence -- the automated discovery systems -- and some new views advanced in the old debate over scientific realism. I focus my attention on one such system, GELL-MANN, designed in 1990 at Wichita State University.
