A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Unified Model for Synthesis and Optimization of Discrete Event and Hybrid Systems

open access: yes, 2014
A recently proposed generic discrete event model is further developed and exemplified in this paper. Since every transition is expressed as a predicate on the current and next values of a set of variables, the model is called Predicate Transition Model ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Discrete exterior geometry approach to structure-preserving discretization of distributed-parameter port-Hamiltonian systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper addresses the issue of structure-preserving discretization of open distributed-parameter systems with Hamiltonian dynamics. Employing the formalism of discrete exterior calculus, we introduce a simplicial Dirac structure as a discrete analogue

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Parallel discrete event simulation on the SpiNNaker engine

open access: yes, 2013
The SpiNNaker engine is a multiprocessor system, designed with a scalable interconnection system to perform real-time neural network simulation. The scalable property of the SpiNNaker system has the potential of providing high computation power making it

A Numerical Study of Quantization-Based Integrators

open access: yesITM Web of Conferences, 2014
Adaptive step size solvers are nowadays considered fundamental to achieve efficient ODE integration. While, traditionally, ODE solvers have been designed based on discrete time machines, new approaches based on discrete event systems have been proposed ...

Managing bottlenecks in manual automobile assembly systems using discrete event simulation

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2013
Batch model lines are quite handy when the demand for each product is moderate. However, they are characterised by high work-in-progress inventories, lost production time when changing over models, and reduced flexibility when it comes to altering ...
