We use topological data analysis to reveal a persistent morphological gap in a major group of songbirds (superfamily Passeroidea). The gap remained unoccupied for millions of years, even though nearby morphologies are common and the same body form exists in other groups of birds.

Abstract This study presents a non‐iterative tuning technique for a linear fractional‐order (FO) controller, based on the integral of the time‐weighted absolute error (ITAE) criterion. Minimizing the ITAE is a traditional approach for tuning FO controllers. This technique reduces the over/undershoot and suppresses the steady‐state error. In contrast to

We present a metaheuristic feature‐selection framework—Artificial Bee Colony, Aquila Optimiser and Fox Optimiser—for blockchain fraud detection, benchmarked across machine‐learning and deep‐learning models on large‐scale transaction data. The study evaluates predictive performance (PR‐AUC/ROC‐AUC), stability across seeds and parsimony under cost ...

Dynamic Intercity Ride‐Sharing Optimisation Based on Two‐Stage Information Feedback
The article introduces a novel two‐stage scheduling approach for intercity dynamic ridesharing that separates the process into a coarse scheduling phase (with online and offline vehicle matching) and a fine scheduling phase that refines the solution using a large neighbourhood search algorithm. By integrating deep Q‐learning to dynamically trigger fine

Multiple Input Delays Estimation Using an Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm
This paper focuses on the time delay estimation of the system described in the form of discrete-time state equation with multiple input delays. To estimate the input delays, a new evolutionary computation called the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm ...

Swarm intelligence for scheduling: a review [PDF]
Swarm Intelligence generally refers to a problem-solving ability that emerges from the interaction of simple information-processing units. The concept of Swarm suggests multiplicity, distribution, stochasticity, randomness, and messiness.

In this paper, we have reviewed six distinct metaheuristic optimisation algorithms applicable to challenging problems in electromagnetics and optics. Specifically, we applied each method to the synthesis of GMR narrowband reflection filters and performed a systematic comparative evaluation. ABSTRACT The design of optical elements often requires precise
