Discrete Choice Models

1987
These are those statistical models which specify the probability distribution of discrete dependent variables as a function of independent variables and unknown parameters. They are sometimes called qualitative response models, and are relevant in economics because the decision of an economic unit frequently involves discrete choice: for example, the ...

Reverse discrete choice models

Regional Science and Urban Economics, 1999
Abstract We derive the cost minimization counterpart to the usual utility maximization version of the multinomial logit (MNL) model. Equivalently, our model considers the reverse of the usual error structure in the maximization problem. The resulting model remains tractable but does not suffer from the IIA property of the MNL.

Discrete choice models and valuation experiments

Journal of Economic Studies, 2003
This paper presents the results of a choice experiment carried out from August to October 2000 on the visitors of the Galleria Borghese Museum, a worldwide known heritage site located in Rome. The main objective of this work is to study the relevancy of choice experiment techniques as a tool aimed at measuring economic values and assessing user ...

Modeling spatial discrete choice

Regional Science and Urban Economics, 2010
Abstract The paper presents a basic spatial discrete choice modeling framework obtained by applying random utility theory to discrete choices made by heterogeneous spatially dependent individuals. The newly developed framework has two main advantages over existing approaches.

Discrete-Choice-Modelle

2007

Interpreting Discrete Choice Models

2022
In discrete choice models the relationships between the independent variables and the choice probabilities are nonlinear, depending on both the value of the particular independent variable being interpreted and the values of the other independent variables.

A Discrete Choice Model When Context Matters

Journal of Mathematical Psychology, 1999
This paper contributes to the description of the choice behavior of an individual who, as a result of capacity limitations, is unable to deal with a large number of alternatives and who is also unsure about his most preferred alternative in any given set.

Applied Discrete-Choice Modelling

2018
Originally published in 1981. Discrete-choice modelling is an area of econometrics where significant advances have been made at the research level. This book presents an overview of these advances, explaining the theory underlying the model, and explores its various applications.

Discrete choice models with latent choice sets

International Journal of Research in Marketing, 1995
Abstract The paper extends discrete choice models by adding an explicit probabilistic representation of the various alternatives considered by the individual in a choice situation. The motivation is to incorporate into a single framework of choice set generation modeling the effects of stochastic constraints or elimination criteria and the influence ...
