The discrete cosine transform--A new version

A new version of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) is introduced. The performance of this new version of the DCT for digital filtering and transform coding is compared to the old version of DCT [1] with various criteria; i.e., variance distribution, residual correlation, Wiener filtering, and maximum-reducible-bits.

A method for using the discrete cosine transform (DCT) as an alternative to the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless transmission methods is presented. These transforms satisfy the cyclic convolution properties of the DFT when used with a symmetric extension.

(1985) based on the successive order reduction of the Tchebycheff polynomial, and retrieved by a simpler approach by Z. Wang (1988), is reviewed. A fast pruning algorithm for the DCT is then developed. >
