Discrete Event Simulation Concepts

2017
This chapter is concerned with the discrete event simulation (DES) paradigm. The main objective of this chapter is to provide the reader some basic philosophical foundations of the technique and it also serves as a brief introduction to Ptolemy II as it illustrates some of the concepts presented by using the software in the context of a simple example.

Discrete Event System Simulation

Simulated systems are used for modelling and analysis of systems for which an analytical solution is either not accessible or difficult to achieve. Simulation is a highly flexible and adaptable discipline within computer science. Because it is simpler than conventional approaches, which are often challenging, simulation is also chosen as a method of ...

Discrete event simulation using event calculus

Proceedings Sixth International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence. TAI 94, 2002
This paper presents the theory and implementation of a logic based discrete event simulation system. The representation language of the simulation is Horn clause logic. The simulation's theory of time is based on event calculus. The scheduling algorithm generates event notices for all activities that can be performed.

Discrete event simulation in algol 68

Software: Practice and Experience, 1975
AbstractAn outline of the three phase method of discrete event simulation is given, and problems in designing a language for this method based on ALGOL 68, together with the final form of the language, are discussed. An important area is seen to be that of lists or sets, and the necessity of devising facilities that are powerful yet simple to use is ...

Using Ada for discrete event simulation

Software: Practice and Experience, 1984
AbstractThe process interaction approach is proposed for developing a discrete simulation environment in Ada. The introduction of simulation facilities in Ada not only concerns the classical aspect of model building, but allows a new class of problems to be tackled, that is the testing of correctness of programs intended for real‐time applications.
