Programmable Crack Networks for Wide‐Range and Reversible Strain Sensing in Vertically Oriented van der Waals Molybdenum Disulfide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Vertically oriented van der Waals MoS2 thin films enable a mechanically programmable crack network for strain sensing. The initial mechanical programming protocol establishes a programmed crack configuration along weak interlayer and interdomain interfaces.

Unlocking Terahertz Steganography: Authentication of Hidden Images in Flexible Media

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hidden information in multilayered devices, such as steganographic portraits, is detected and authenticated using reflection‐mode terahertz time‐domain imaging. Image reconstruction relies on a dedicated figure‐of‐merit obtained by integrating the signal intensity over the time‐window associated with the reflection from the metallic mirror backing the ...

The Taylor Integral and a Generalization of the Discrete Fourier Transform

open access: yes
We propose a new integral based on Taylor measures, study its properties extensively, and we illustrate that it includes many concepts from mathematics as special cases. In particular, the new integral emerges as a generalization of the discrete Fourier transform, and we identify general conditions for it to be invertible when applied to any real or ...

Bismuth Nanogratings With Narrow Plasmon Resonances for Dynamic Polarized Color Generation and Colorimetric Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Bismuth nanogratings are fabricated by pulsed laser deposition onto the nanostructured silver and polycarbonate surfaces of DVDs. They display spectrally‐narrow plasmon resonances yielding vivid colors, which are strongly sensitive to the polarization of light, angle of incidence, nature of the underlying surface and of the surrounding medium (air or ...

Magnetotelluric sampling theorem

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
We consider a general case of a magnetotelluric (MT) study to reveal three-dimensional (3D) distribution of the electrical conductivity within the Earth based on measurements of electromagnetic (EM) fields by a two-dimensional (2D) array.

Extrinsic Limitations of Stealthy Hyperuniform Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Stealthy hyperuniform devices exhibit a scattering‐free angular region whose extent follows a simple quenching equation. Experimental measurements confirm this prediction but reveal quenching efficiencies far below theoretical expectations. Multiple scattering and finite‐size effects are quantified, establishing realistic performance limits for ...

Light‐Driven Quadrupedal Walking Biohybrid Robot With Antagonistic Muscle‐Rings and Inclined Joints

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a light‐driven quadrupedal walking biohybrid robot powered by antagonistic muscle‐rings that achieve alternating walking gait. Optical training improved reproducibility of cultured muscle tissues, while caffeine treatment enhanced contractile force.

Image feature analysis using the Multiresolution Fourier Transform [PDF]

open access: yes
The problem of identifying boundary contours or line structures is widely recognised as an important component in many applications of image analysis and computer vision.

Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum for Image Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Solid Harmonic Wavelet Bispectrum (SHWB), a rotation‐ and translation‐invariant descriptor that captures higher‐order (phase) correlations in signals, is introduced. Combining wavelet scattering, bispectral analysis, and group theory, SHWB achieves interpretable, data‐efficient representations and demonstrates competitive performance across texture,
