The Discrete Equation of the Straight Line
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1975A new method of description of a straight line defined on a square grid is presented. The discrete equation of the straight line (desl) is introduced as an extension of the classical Cartesian equation, and applies to straight lines quantized on a grid by the grid intersect method.

Mechanism design on discrete lines and cycles
Proceedings of the 13th ACM Conference on Electronic Commerce, 2012We study strategyproof (SP) mechanisms for the location of a facility on a discrete graph. We give a full characterization of SP mechanisms on lines and on sufficiently large cycles. Interestingly, the characterization deviates from the one given by Schummer and Vohra (2004) for the continuous case.

A Note on Discrete Representation of Lines
AT&T Technical Journal, 1985In raster graphics a line must be drawn as a “discrete segment”, a set of integer grid points that lie close to the line. Equivalence classes of identically drawn lines are described in terms of Farey series; this treatment notably simplifies previous work of Dorst and Smeulders. A log n algorithm serves to identify a line's equivalence class. Using it

Discrete Lines and Wandering Paths
SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 2007The problem of finding an approximation to a geometric line by a discrete line using pixels is ubiquitous in computer graphics applications. We show that this discrete line problem in ${\mathbb R}^{n+1}$, for grids of any shape, is equivalent to a geometry problem in ${\mathbb R}^n$ concerning the minimization of the distance that a certain type of ...

Combining Force Histogram and Discrete Lines to Extract Dashed Lines
2010 20th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2010A new method to extract dashed lines in technical document is proposed in this paper by combining force histogram and discrete lines. The aim is to study the spatial location of couples of connected components using force histogram and to refine the recognition by considering surrounding discrete lines.

On using continuous flow lines to model discrete production lines
Discrete Event Dynamic Systems: Theory and Applications, 1994We extend previous research on the use of models ofcontinuous tandem (CT) lines for performance analysis ofdiscrete tandem (DT) production lines. We formalize the translation of input parameters from the DT line to the CT model, as well as the translation of performance measures (PMs) obtained from the CT model back to the DT line.

On Line Discrete-Time Control of Industrial Robots
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1991Abstract A recent discrete-time robotic model is employed and linearized to develop three different LQ-type robot controllers. These controllers are: optimal time-varying linear-quadratic controller (OTVLQ), OTVLQ controller with steady-state error elimination, and one-step ahead optimal LQ controller. These controllers require moderate computational

Discrete Morphology with Line Structuring Elements
2003Discrete morphological operations with line segments are notoriously hard to implement. In this paper we study different possible implementations of the line structuring element, compare them, and examine their rotation and translation invariance in the continuous domain.
