Manufacturing Algebra: a new mathematical tool for discrete-event modelling of manufacturing systems

1998
The Manufacturing Algebra was developed during several years of research and more recently within the ESPRIT Basic Research HIMAC-8141 (Hierarchical Management and Control of Manufacturing Systems). For a comprehensive list of publications see the enclosed References.

Modelling complex manufacturing systems using discrete event simulation

Computers & Industrial Engineering, 1988
Abstract This paper presents an approach in simulating complex manufacturing systems. The approach is founded on developing several general purpose simulation generators for an assembly station, a manufacturing cell, and an inventory transfer function.

Discrete Event Systems, Manufacturing Systems, and Communication Networks

1995
The study of discrete event dynamical systems (DEDS) has become rapidly popular among researchers in systems and control, in communication networks, in manufacturing, and in distributed computing. This development has created problems for researchers and potential "consumers" of the research.

Optimal inventory-production control in discrete manufacturing systems

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract The problem of inventory-production control in discrete manufacturing systems in the presence of stochastic disturbances and measurement noise is considered. The proposed control algorithms are based on the internal model control principle.

Input–output identification of controlled discrete manufacturing systems

International Journal of Systems Science, 2012
The automated construction of discrete event models from observations of external system's behaviour is addressed. This problem, often referred to as system identification, allows obtaining models of ill-known or even unknown systems. In this article, an identification method for discrete event systems DESs controlled by a programmable logic controller

Discrete Simulation of Flexible Manufacturing System

1981
A Flexible Manufacturing System is an integration of machine tools, material handling devices and computers into a system designed to improve productivity in the mid-volume production. Although a number of such systems have been designed, relatively little is know about the managing and optimal operating conditions of such systems.

Transient state estimation for a discrete manufacturing system

Journal of Manufacturing Systems, 1999
Abstract To control a discrete manufacturing system (DMS), one must first estimate its current transient state. If control is to occur in a closed-loop mode, then a method is required to estimate the system state automatically. However, the state of a DMS changes rapidly, and the estimation of its transient state poses subtle challenges.
