A robust fault detection method of rolling bearings using modulation signal bispectrum analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Envelope analysis is a widely used method for bearing fault detection. To obtain high detection accuracy, it is critical to select an optimal narrowband for envelope demodulation.

Analysis of Imperfections in Practical Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution

open access: yes, 2012
As quantum key distribution becomes a mature technology, it appears clearly that some assumptions made in the security proofs cannot be justified in practical implementations. This might open the door to possible side-channel attacks.

Digital Actuation Control of Soft Robotic Origami With Self‐Folding Liquid Crystal Elastomer Hinges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐folding soft‐rigid hybrid robotic origami is enabled by liquid crystal elastomer actuators with embedded Joule heating and closed‐loop digital control. Digitally addressable hinges provide reversible and programmable transitions between distinct folded states while maintaining actuation performance at high cycle counts (over 1500).

Constructing practical Fuzzy Extractors using QIM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Fuzzy extractors are a powerful tool to extract randomness from noisy data. A fuzzy extractor can extract randomness only if the source data is discrete while in practice source data is continuous.

Magnetic Force Microscopy Signatures of Higher‐Order Skyrmions and Antiskyrmions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic force microscopy operated under vacuum conditions enables the qualitative identification of higher‐order skyrmions and antiskyrmions in Co/Ni multilayers at room temperature. Distinct stray‐field contrast signatures arise from vertical Bloch lines and complex domain‐wall configurations.

Comparative Study of SVD and QRS in Closed-Loop Beamforming Systems

open access: yes, 2008
We compare two closed-loop beamforming algorithms, one based on singular value decomposition (SVD) and the other based on equal diagonal QR decomposition (QRS).

High‐Resolution and Real‐Time In Situ Generation of Cellular Spheroids by Laser‐Assisted Bioprinting for Guided Microvascularization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐injection laser‐assisted bioprinting enables ultrafast and precise patterning of small endothelial cell spheroids by injecting a highly concentrated single‐cell suspension into GelMA/ColMA hydrogels. In co‐culture with fibroblasts, controlled pre‐vasculogenic network formation is obtained at microscale resolution.

A numerical method with properties of consistency in the energy domain for a class of dissipative nonlinear wave equations with applications to a Dirichlet boundary-value problem

open access: yes, 2011
In this work, we present a conditionally stable finite-difference scheme that consistently approximates the solution of a general class of (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear equations that generalizes in various ways the quantitative model governing discrete ...

High-order modulation on a single discrete eigenvalue for optical communications based on nonlinear Fourier transform.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
In this paper, we experimentally investigate high-order modulation over a single discrete eigenvalue under the nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT) framework and exploit all degrees of freedom for encoding information.

Mechanoregulatory Effects of Cell‐Scale Microwells on Epithelial Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In small polycaprolactone microwells, A549 epithelial cells span well edges, in contrast to cells growing on flat substrates. Focal adhesion sites (yellow) concentrate at topographic boundaries, while cytoskeletal tension (magenta stress fibers) is transmitted to the nucleus (blue), reducing nuclear sphericity.
