Convergence of discrete ordinates iteration scheme

Transport Theory and Statistical Physics, 1985
Abstract In this paper, we prove the convergence of the iteration scheme of the discrete ordinates method for the plane geometry transport equation discretised using positive weighted diamond schemes. General anisotropic scattering, boundary conditions and cross-sections are included. For the case of isotropic scattering and vacuum boundary conditions,

Advances in Discrete-Ordinates Methodology

2009
In 1968, Bengt Carlson and Kaye Lathrop published a comprehensive review on the state of the art in discrete-ordinates (SN) calculations [10]. At that time, SN methodology existed primarily for reactor physics simulations. By today’s standards, those capabilities were limited, due to the less-developed theoretical state of SN methods and the slower and

PARALLELIZATION OF THE DISCRETE ORDINATES METHOD

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part B: Fundamentals, 1997
Abstract Two different paraUetization strategies of the discrete ordinates method (DOM) are described and implemented in a distributed-memory computer. In the angular decomposition (ADP), each processor performs the calculations for the whole domain but deals only with a few directions, while in the spatial domain decomposition (DDP), each processor ...

Evaluating alternate discrete choice frameworks for modeling ordinal discrete variables

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2013
There is considerable debate on the appropriate discrete choice framework for examining injury severity. Researchers in the safety field have employed ordered and unordered frameworks for examining the various factors influencing injury severity. The objective of the current study is to investigate the performance of the ordered and unordered response ...

Discrete ordinates scheme for quadrilateral meshes

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 1988
Abstract A simple extension of the discrete ordinates method for solving the transport equation with quadrilateral meshes in X - Y and R - Z geometry is described. Numerical results of some benchmark problems are presented for showing the adequacy of the modified scheme.

On the Discrete-Ordinates Method via Case's Solution

Journal of Computational Physics, 1993
Regular and singular solutions of the neutron transport in the plane are considered. A new set of quadrature coefficients for the discrete ordinates method is obtained and its efficiency demonstrated.

SPATIALLY VARYING DISCRETE ORDINATES METHODS IN XY-GEOMETRY

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2000
We consider the coupling of angular discretizations of the two-dimensional linear transport equation. We show the well-posedness of the coupled problem and give an error estimate. The angular discretization is based on the discrete ordinates method. It involves a quadrature rule specifically designed for our coupling.

Acceleration techniques for the discrete ordinate method

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 2013
In this paper we analyze several acceleration techniques for the discrete ordinate method with matrix exponential and the small-angle modification of the radiative transfer equation. These techniques include the left eigenvectors matrix approach for computing the inverse of the right eigenvectors matrix, the telescoping technique, and the method of ...
