Performance of three-dimensional nodal discrete ordinates methods
Progress in Nuclear Energy, 1986Abstract The development and testing of higher order three-dimensional nodal S N methods is discussed. In fixed-source problems, the method, using linear node-interior and constant node-surface flux approximations, significantly reduces the mesh cell and computing time requirements over the conventional linear diamond S N method, to achieve

Improved Treatment of Scattering Using the Discrete Ordinates Method
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1994A finite volume method (FVM) is presented in this article. This procedure can be used to model transparent, absorbing, emitting, and anisotropically scattering media. A procedure to capture collimated beam is also presented. The FVM is applied to six test problems, and the results compared favorably against other published results.

Fuel Assembly Calculations Using the Method of Discrete Ordinates
Nuclear Science and Engineering, 2005The discrete ordinates code DORT is employed to treat pin cell and fuel assembly configurations in two spatial dimensions. Despite DORT's restriction to regular (i.e., Cartesian) coordinates, we demonstrate its ability to calculate accurate pin power distributions and eigenvalues of typical reactor fuel lattices. Several numerical experiments have been

Three-Dimensional Discrete Ordinates Method in Transient Radiative Transfer
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2002A complete transient three-dimensional discrete ordinates method is formulated for the e rst time to solve transient radiative transfer in a rectangular enclosure containing nonhomogeneous media that absorb, emit, and scatter. Twofold validation of the transient method is obtained: First, there is an excellent agreement between its results at long time

View factors for a rectangular box by discrete-ordinate method
Heat Transfer?Asian Research, 1999The purpose of this study is to compute view factors for a finite rectangular box type enclosure by using the discrete-ordinate method. A transparent medium is enclosed by the walls, which are opaque and black. A protrusion may exist in the system that reduces the radiant exchange between some of the surfaces due to shading.

Parallelization of the discrete ordinates method: Two different approaches
1997One of the most popular methods used in the solution of radiative heat transfer problems is the discrete ordinates method (DOM). The present paper describes two different parallelization strategies of the DOM. One of them is based on angular decomposition and the other one is based on spatial decomposition. In the first case each processor performs the
