Discrete Competitive Lotka–Volterra Model with Controllable Phase Volume [PDF]
The simulation of population dynamics and social processes is of great interest in nonlinear systems. Recently, many scholars have paid attention to the possible applications of population dynamics models, such as the competitive Lotka–Volterra equation,

Settling of Mesoplastics in an Open-Channel Flow
Pollution of water by plastic contaminants has received increasing attention, owing to its negative effects on ecosystems. Small plastic particles propagate in water and can travel long distances from the source of pollution.

Nodal Discretization of Two-Phase Discrete Fracture Matrix Models [PDF]
This chapter reviews the nodal Vertex Approximate Gradient (VAG) discretization of two-phase Darcy flows in fractured porous media for which the fracture network is represented as a manifold of co-dimension one with respect to the surrounding matrix domain. Different types of models and their discretizations are considered depending on the transmission

Analysis of Erosion Minimization for a Slurry Pump Using Discrete Phase Model Simulations
A slurry pump is a device used to transport slurry, which is a mixture of solids and liquids. The slurry pump is subjected to physical erosion, generally resulting from erosion by friction between the solid and liquid particles.

The Growth and Evolution of Biomass Soot in Partial Oxidation-Assisted Hot Gas Filtration
At present, partial oxidation is applied in the filtration processes of biomass hot gas to aid in solving the blockage problems caused by tar and dust condensates. However, in the resulting high-temperature and oxygen-limited environment, the risk of tar

Phase computations and phase models for discrete molecular oscillators [PDF]
Biochemical oscillators perform crucial functions in cells, e.g., they set up circadian clocks. The dynamical behavior of oscillators is best described and analyzed in terms of the scalar quantity, phase. A rigorous and useful definition for phase is based on the so-called isochrons of oscillators.

Dust Dispersion Characteristics of Open Stockpiles and the Scale of Dust Suppression Shed
The storage of bulk materials in open yards can easily lead to contamination in the form of suspended particles. The creation of enclosed spaces for open yards is an effective measure to stop the dispersion of dust to the outside.

Phase transitions in models with discrete symmetry [PDF]
We investigate a class of models with a massless fermion and a self-interacting scalar field with the Yukawa interaction between these two fields. The models considered are formulated in two and four spacetime dimensions and possess a discrete symmetry. We calculate the chiral condensates which are calculated in the one-loop approximation.

Simulation of Separation of Salt Solution from Crude Oil in a Hydrocyclone
In this study, separating water from oil is studied numerically. In this simulation, the Reynolds Stress Model and the mixture multiphase model are used for coupling the velocity and pressure equations using the SIMPLE algorithm.
