PHASE CHAOS IN THE DISCRETE KURAMOTO MODEL

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2010
The paper describes the appearance of a novel, high-dimensional chaotic regime, called phase chaos, in a time-discrete Kuramoto model of globally coupled phase oscillators. This type of chaos is observed at small and intermediate values of the coupling strength.

Numerical simulation of a dense flow cyclone using the kinetic theory of granular flow in a dense discrete phase model

Powder Technology, 2019
In this study, the dense flow characteristics in a Lapple cyclone were investigated using numerical simulations. At a high solid volume fraction, four-way coupling must be applied to account for solid volume fraction in Navier-Stokes equations and ...

CFD simulations of a full-loop CFB reactor using coarse-grained Eulerian–Lagrangian dense discrete phase model: Effects of modeling parameters

Powder Technology, 2019
The hydrodynamics of a 3D full-loop circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor were investigated using a coarse-grained dense discrete phase model (DDPM). The effects of changes in key modeling parameters such as the drag force, particle number per parcel ...

Numerical simulation of circulating fluidized bed oxy-fuel combustion with Dense Discrete Phase Model

Fuel processing technology, 2019
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become a valuable tool to study the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion process. This work conducts the CFB oxy-fuel combustion process with different O 2 concentrations by using the Dense Discrete Phase ...

Considerations in Using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM)

steel research international, 2011
AbstractMany metallurgical processes involve multiphase flows and liquid metal processing is not an exception. During the secondary refining, and casting of steel, there are many interactions between the liquid phase, and the dispersed phases (spherical gas bubbles, inclusions, liquid slag droplets etc.).

Effect of scaffold architecture on cell seeding efficiency: A discrete phase model CFD analysis

Comput. Biol. Medicine, 2019
Within perfusion cell culture systems, scaffold architecture is able to control important biological parameters such as permeability and fluid flow-induced shear stress. As well, one of the main factors affecting the final fate of this process as well as

Transport hydrodynamics of particles in a gas–solid cyclone reactor using a dense discrete phase model and a particle size segmentation method

Powder Technology, 2019
A downward gas–solid cyclone reactor (GSCR) was designed for the fluid catalytic cracking. It is expected that the over–cracking of light products can be suppressed by the gradient distribution and short residence time of particles. Besides, the mass and

Dense discrete phase model simulations of CO2 capture process in a fluidized bed absorber with potassium-based solid sorbent

Powder Technology, 2019
Chemical absorption using potassium-based sorbents is an effective method of low-temperature CO2 capture during the post-combustion process. In this work, a three-dimensional simulation is carried out to investigate the CO2 capture process with potassium-

Comparison Between Discrete Phase Model and Multiphase Model for Wet Compression

Volume 5A: Industrial and Cogeneration; Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Marine; Microturbines, Turbochargers, and Small Turbomachines, 2013
Gas turbine inlet fog / overspray cooling is considered as a simple and effective method to increase power output. To help understand the water mist transport in the compressor flow passage, this study conducts a computational simulation of wet compression in a single rotor-stator compressor stage using the commercial code, Fluent.

Numerical study of snow accumulation on the bogies of a high-speed train using URANS coupled with discrete phase model

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 2018
The snow accumulation on bogies of a three-car grouping high-speed train has been investigated using unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes simulations (URANS) coupled with Discrete Phase Model (DPM).
