Dynamic modeling method for infrared smoke based on enhanced discrete phase model

open access: yesInfrared Physics & Technology, 2018
Abstract The dynamic modeling of infrared (IR) smoke plays an important role in IR scene simulation systems and its accuracy directly influences the system veracity. However, current IR smoke models cannot provide high veracity, because certain physical characteristics are frequently ignored in fluid simulation; simplifying the discrete phase as a ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Sensitivity analysis using a model based on computational fluid dynamics, discrete element method and discrete phase model to study a food hydrofluidization system

open access: yesJournal of Food Engineering, 2018
A sensitivity analysis was performed to study a hydrofluidization system, using a previous partially validated model that considers multiple fluid immersed jets and moving food spheres.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Aerodynamic Sensitivity Analysis for a Wind Turbine Airfoil in an Air-Particle Two-Phase Flow

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
In this paper, the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with a Lagrangian discrete phase model are described to simulate the air-particle flows over the S809 airfoil of the Phase VI blade, the NH6MW25 airfoil of a 6 MW wind turbine blade and the NACA0012 ...

Model Optimization of Shale Gas Reservoir Volume Fracturing Dissolved Gas Simulation Adsorbed Gas

open access: yesGeofluids, 2021
Shale reservoirs have some natural fractures with a certain density and connectivity. The basic percolation model of shale gas reservoir: the black oil model of gas-water phase is used as the basic model, and the dissolved gas is used to simulate ...

Discrete-Time Models and Performance of Phase Noise Channels

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
This paper deals with the phase noise affecting communication systems, where local oscillators are employed to obtain reference signals for carrier and timing synchronizations. The most common discrete-time phase noise channel model is analyzed, with the aim to fill the gap between measurements and analytical models.
