Numerical investigation of the mechanical behaviours of a pair of rock bridges at diverse scales in direct shear

open access: yesScientific Reports
Rock bridges have long been recognised to provide crucial resistance against rock mass failure. Multiple rock bridges with diverse scales are widespread in natural rock masses.

Crack evolution mechanism of stratified rock mass under different strength ratios and soft layer thickness: Insights from DEM modeling

open access: yesSoils and Foundations
Research on stratified rock masses, which are common geological formations, has primarily focused on their mechanical properties, while studies on crack evolution and microscopic damage mechanisms remain limited.

Fully Wireless and Flexible Valves for Multiplexed and Prolonged Intravesical Liquid Release

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A fundamental mechanism for the simultaneous control of multiple magnetic valves is reported in a miniature soft robotic patch for intravesical drug delivery, enabling fully wireless and programmable liquid release. Integrated with a bioadhesive interface and induction‐coupling‐based liquid volume sensing, the soft robotic patch is promising to enable ...

Laminated Beam Analysis by Polynomial, rigonometric, Exponential and Zig-Zag Theories

open access: yes, 2013
A number of refined beam theories are discussed in this paper. These theories were obtained by expanding the unknown displacement variables over the beam section axes by adopting Taylor's polynomials, trigonometric series, exponential, hyperbolic and zig ...

Microgel‐Based 3D Bioprinting: A Convergent Strategy Integrating Material Design, Jamming Dynamics, and Biological Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microgel‐based 3D printed constructs represent a compelling and versatile innovation for engineering architecturally complex, dynamically remodelable, and biocompatible structures with high structural fidelity and bioactivity. By integrating material design, biofabrication, and biological function, these systems enable the development of adaptive ...

Locking-Free Kriging-Based Curved Beam Elements with the Discrete Strain Gap Technique [PDF]

open access: yes
Kriging-based finite element method (K-FEM) is an enhancement of the FEM using Kriging interpolation in place of the conventional polynomial interpolation.

Seta‐Inspired Mechano‐Intelligent Janus Bandage with Coordinated Adhesion–Contraction for Minimizing Scarring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a bioinspired mechano‐intelligent Janus bandage (MIB) with a hydrophobic flat exterior and a hydrophilic interior featuring gecko‐mimicking wedged microstructures, fabricated via micromolding and anisotropic plasma treatment. The MIB dynamically synchronizes adhesion and contraction, enabling precise force modulation.

Static and free vibration analyses and dynamic control of composite plates integrated with piezoelectric sensors and actuators by the cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method (CS-FEM-DSG3)

open access: yes, 2013
The cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method (CS-FEM-DSG3) using three-node triangular elements was recently proposed to improve the performance of the discrete shear gap method (DSG3) for static and free vibration analyses of isotropic Mindlin ...

A Study on the Mechanical Properties of an Asphalt Mixture Skeleton Meso-Structure Based on Computed Tomography Images and the Discrete Element Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Current understanding of the load-transfer mechanism in the skeletal contact state of asphalt mixtures and its influence on macroscopic mechanical properties remains insufficient.
