Strain‐Space Hyperreduction Using Empirically Corrected Cluster Cubature With Linear and Quadratic Approximation Spaces

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Strain‐space reduced cubature techniques such as the Empirically Corrected Cluster Cubature (E3C) considerably reduce the integration effort incurred in computational homogenisation problems. In this work, we apply E3C in tandem with projection‐based model reduction techniques utilising both linear and quadratic approximation spaces.

Half-closed discontinuous Galerkin discretisations

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics
We introduce the concept of half-closed nodes for nodal discontinuous Galerkin (DG) discretisations. Unlike more commonly used closed nodes in DG, where on every element nodes are placed on all of its boundaries, half-closed nodes only require nodes to be placed on a subset of the element's boundaries. The effect of using different nodes on DG operator

Discontinuous Galerkin discretisation with embedded boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this paper is to introduce discretisation methods of discontinuous Galerkin type for solving second order elliptic PDEs on a structured, regular rectangular grid, while the problem is defined on a curved boundary.

A Minimalist Model for the Capture and Investigation of Solitary Waves in Gravity–Driven Liquid Films

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT A potential–based, first–integral formulation of the Navier–Stokes equations is used as a platform for modelling solitary waves in gravity‐driven film flow, giving rise to a nonlinear partial differential equation in complex form. Its subsequent modal decomposition—leading to an infinite set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), followed ...

A Numerical Study of a Weakly Symmetric Dual‐Mixed Finite Element Method for the Stokes Source Problem With Velocity Postprocessing

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT We present a numerical study of a weakly symmetric dual‐mixed finite element method for the Stokes source problem, in which the Cauchy stress is the primary unknown and its symmetry is imposed weakly through a vorticity Lagrange multiplier. Viewing the scheme as the incompressible limit of the reduced‐symmetry mixed elasticity framework, we ...

Global Graph Surrogates and Neural Graph Elements for Computational Mechanics

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Machine learning surrogates are increasingly used to accelerate physics‐based simulations by predicting full‐field responses at a fraction of the computational cost. In this contribution, we present two complementary graph‐based approaches for surrogate modelling in computational mechanics.

Peridynamic Modelling of Process‐Dependent Material Strength in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes create complex, process‐dependent material properties during printing that cannot be measured in advance and are governed by parameters, such as tool path, temperature history and cooling conditions. A Peridynamics (PD) correspondence framework is presented for simulating the entire AM process chain ...

Dam Management in the Era of Climate Change

open access: yesMathematical Finance, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 870-895, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change has a dramatic impact, particularly by concentrating rainfall into a few short periods, interspersed with long dry spells. In this context, the role of dams is crucial. We consider the optimal control of a dam, where the water level must neither exceed a designated safety threshold nor fall below a minimum level to ensure ...

Linear and Programmable Long‐Term Plasticity in PECVD Amorphous SiC Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, Volume 12, Issue 17, 7 September 2026.
Stoichiometry‐engineered PECVD amorphous SiC memristors exhibit highly linear and programmable long‐term synaptic plasticity with a nonlinearity as low as 0.08. By controlling the local bonding environment, stable multilevel conductance updates are achieved, enabling robust neural‐network classification on MNIST and CIFAR‐10 and highlighting amorphous ...

Bridging Theory and Practice: Digital Twin Simulation of a Heat Exchanger in Laboratories for Engineering Students

open access: yesComputer Applications in Engineering Education, Volume 34, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Digital twins serve as virtual replicas of physical systems. They can be used as a tool for engineering education by revealing the underlying principles behind unit operations. The project aimed to integrate digital twins into university engineering lab courses, complementing traditional methods by bridging the gap between experimentation and ...
