Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Tonic signaling of the B‐cell antigen‐specific receptor is a common functional hallmark in chronic lymphocytic leukemia cell phosphoproteomes at early disease stages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
B‐cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B‐CLL) and monoclonal B‐cell lymphocytosis (MBL) show altered proteomes and phosphoproteomes, analyzed using mass spectrometry, protein microarrays, and western blotting. Identifying 2970 proteins and 316 phosphoproteins, including 55 novel phosphopeptides, we reveal BCR and NF‐kβ/STAT3 signaling in disease ...

FAM136A depletion induces mitochondrial stress and reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
FAM136A depletion upregulated ROS production, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ) and ATP production, and upregulated expression of PCK1, PCK2, HMGCS1, and HMGCS2. The expression of both TOMM22 and TOMM20 was also upregulated. FAM136A depletion reduced HCCS that produce holocytochrome c by combining heme to apocytochrome c, and reduced the ...

Molecular Communication-Based Intelligent Dopamine Rate Modulator for Parkinson's Disease Treatment [PDF]

open access: yes
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, and it is caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia (BG). Currently, there is no definite cure for PD, and available treatments mainly aim to alleviate its symptoms.

Types of Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine: A Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Two basic and clinical researches accomplished during the recent years on embryonic and adult stem cells constituted a mutation in regenerative therapy. These cells can be used for treating some degenerative diseases. Between them, age-related functional

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...

Football and Beer - a Social Media Analysis on Twitter in Context of the FIFA Football World Cup 2018 [PDF]

open access: yesIn proceedings of Social Media Mining for Health Applications (SMM4H) @ EMNLP 2018, 2018
In many societies alcohol is a legal and common recreational substance and socially accepted. Alcohol consumption often comes along with social events as it helps people to increase their sociability and to overcome their inhibitions. On the other hand we know that increased alcohol consumption can lead to serious health issues, such as cancer ...
