An Unusual Case of Corpse Dismemberment
The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology, 2006A case of corpse dismemberment into 850 fragments was investigated at the Cracow Department of Forensic Medicine. The perpetrator employed various tools to divide the body into fragments and subsequently boiled the pieces to reduce their volume. The thus-prepared body decreased its volume to 30 kg.

This chapter focuses on the motivations of those who dismember and the factors that influence such behaviour. Although this area has received very little research attention to date, an attempt can be made to draw on allied areas to examine the dimensions of dismemberment motivation and its context.

[Dismemberment and mutilation (2)].
Archiv fur Kriminologie, 198831 cases of criminal dismemberment or mutilation were investigated in the period from 1959 to 1987 at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Hamburg. With regard to all legal autopsies the average frequency was about 1:500. A distinct increase of the number of cases is noticeable within the last years; i.e. 1984 there were 6 victims.
