Dyeing of polyester knitted fabric with disperse dyes in one-component, two-component and three component system [PDF]

open access: yesTekstilna industrija
In this study, the dyeing of polyester knitted fabric in one-component - red dye, two-component - red + yellow dye and three-component dyeing system - red + yellow + blue dye was investigated.

One-bath one-step dyeing of polyester/cotton (PC) blends fabric with disperse dyes after acetylation of cotton

open access: yesDiscover Materials, 2021
Aiming at the classic problem of dyeing of polyester–cotton blended fabric one-bath one-step dyeing of PC blends with disperse dye after surface modification of cotton were studied. Surface modification of cotton was carried out using fibrous acetylation

Surface modification of polyester using chicken feather keratin hydrolysate to improve water absorbency and dye uptake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
PET fiber has an intrinsic low hydrophilic character and an inactive surface which make it uncomfortable for wearing purpose. Moreover, it is difficult to colour polyester fabric other than disperse dyes.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Disperse Yellow Dye: An Emerging Professional Sensitizer in Contact Allergy Dermatitis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inflammation, 2012
Disperse dyes are well known as common sensitizers in contact allergy dermatitis. Disperse yellow 3 is usually adopted in the textile industry for dying synthetic fibers, but is also used in hair dyes and for colouring plastic materials.

Synthesis and Photocatalytic Performance of TiO2-CNT and Magnetized Fe3O4-TiO2-CNT Multifunctional Hybrids: A Pickering Emulsion Platform for Organic Degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The oil and textile industries produce billions of gallons of wastewater containing toxic, and sometimes carcinogenic or mutagenic, chemicals that often disperse throughout wastewater as suspended oil droplets.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Focused parameter study of dye removal from PET textiles using Cyrene: Toward sustainable textile recycling

open access: yesEnvironmental Challenges
Polyester is the most widely used textile fibre, accounting for around 54% of global fibre production. However, less than 1% of clothing is recycled into new textiles, largely due to dyes that reduce the quality of recovered fibres.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
