EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Surface Chemistry of Silver Halide Microcrystals

open access: yesCHIMIA, 1994
Experimental techniques to study the surface properties of silver halide crystals in the ?m range, dispersed in gelatin, are discussed. The adsorption of sensitizing cyanine dyes and the properties of the adsorbed sensitizers on such silver ...

Log-Normal or Over-Dispersed Poisson?

open access: yesRisks, 2018
Although both over-dispersed Poisson and log-normal chain-ladder models are popular in claim reserving, it is not obvious when to choose which model. Yet, the two models are obviously different. While the over-dispersed Poisson model imposes the variance

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

An early warning system to predict and mitigate wheat rust diseases in Ethiopia

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2019
Wheat rust diseases pose one of the greatest threats to global food security, including subsistence farmers in Ethiopia. The fungal spores transmitting wheat rust are dispersed by wind and can remain infectious after dispersal over long distances.

Fourier-domain low-coherence interferometry for light-scattering spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present a novel method for obtaining depth-resolved spectra for determining scatterer size through elastic- scattering properties. Depth resolution is achieved with a white-light source in a Michelson interferometer with the mixed signal and reference

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...
