Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Near-Capacity Irregular Precoded Linear Dispersion Codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this treatise, we propose a novel serial concatenated RSC-coded Irregular Precoded Linear Dispersion Codes (IR-PLDC), which is capable of operating near MIMO channel’s capacity.

Analysis of fronts in reaction-dispersal processes [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2004
The existence of traveling wave front solutions with a minimum speed selected for reaction-dispersal processes is studied. We obtain a general existence condition in terms of the waiting time and dispersal distance probability distribution functions and we detail this result for situations of ecological interest.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Effect of microchannel aspect ratio on residence time distributions and the axial dispersion coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The effect of microchannel aspect ratio (channel depth/channel width) on residence time distributions and the axial dispersion coefficient have been investigated for Newtonian and shear thinning non-Newtonian flow using computational fluid dynamics.

Dispersion analysis of spaced antenna scintillation measurement [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2009
We present a dispersion analysis of the phase of GPS signals received at high latitude. Basic theoretical aspects for spectral analysis of two-point measurement are given.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Comparing the low-frequency content of exploration seismic source - receiver combinations using surface waves: a field study in Hussar, Alberta

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The low-frequency content of seismic waves in exploration is of substantial value as it can benefit imaging and inversion by providing deeper penetration, broader-band energy, and wavelet stability. However, characterizing the factors contributing to low

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
