Ascertainment of photonic stopband absolute topological character requires information regarding the Bloch eigenfunction spatial distribution. Consequently, the experimental investigations predominantly restrict themselves to the bulk‐boundary ...

Dispersal Behavior Characters of Spodoptera frugiperda Larvae
The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a major pest of corn worldwide. FAW larval dispersal is an important life strategy that influences FAW population distribution in corn fields and subsequent plant damage.

A new approximation of the dispersion relations occurring in the sound-attenuation problem of turbofan aircraft engines [PDF]
The dispersion relations, appearing in the analysis of the stability of a gas flow in a straight acoustically-lined duct with respect to perturbations produced by a time harmonic source, beside the wave number and complex frequency contain the solution ...

Perfect flat band with chirality and charge ordering out of strong spin-orbit interaction
Spin-orbit coupling has been typically associated with dispersion and topological character of electronic bands. Here, the authors show analytically that strong spin orbit coupling can lead to ultra-flat bands with strong correlations in a 5d pyrochlore ...

Dispersion characteristics of complex electromechanical parameters of porous piezoceramics
In this paper, the results of experimental study of dispersion characteristics of complex electromechanical parameters of ferroelectrically “hard” porous piezoceramics based on PZT composition were presented.

Evolution of seed characters and of dispersal modes in Aizoaceae
The family Aizoaceae includes ~1880 species and is one of the more diverse groups within Caryophyllales, particularly in arid areas in the western part of southern Africa. Most species are dwarf succulent-leaf shrubs. In response to the harsh climatic conditions prevalent where they occur, many representatives have evolved special reproductive ...

MBD + C: How to Incorporate Metallic Character into Atom-Based Dispersion Energy Schemes
The dispersion component of the van der Waals (vdW) interaction in low-dimensional metals is known to exhibit anomalous "Type-C non-additivity" [Int. J. Quantum Chem. 114, 1157 (2014)]. This causes dispersion energy behavior, at asymptotically large separations, that is missed by popular atom-based schemes for dispersion energy calculations.

Modeling a Wave on Mild Sloping Bottom Topography and Its Dispersion Relation Approximation
Linear wave theory is a simple theory that researchers and engineers often use to study a wave in deep, intermediate, and shallow water regions. Many researchers mostly used it over the horizontal flat seabed, but in actual conditions, sloping seabed ...

Gate-tunable near-field localization switching in black phosphorus via hybrid plasmonic excitation [PDF]
Integrated photonics increasingly demands ultracompact, low-power, and highly tunable platforms for actively reconfigurable field control. Although black phosphorus (BP) provides strong electrostatic tunability and anisotropic plasmonic dispersion ...
