Dispersion measures and entropy for seizure detection

2011 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2011
Electroencephalogram (EEG) is an important technique for detecting epileptic seizures. In this paper a method of classification of EEG signal into normal, interictal and ictal classes is presented. Statistical measures such as median absolute deviation (MAD), variance and entropy showing the dispersion and rhythmicity, were calculated for each frame of

Dispersion Entropy for the automated detection of epileptic seizures

2020 IEEE 15th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS), 2020
The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a powerful tool for evaluation of seizure activities in the human brain. This paper introduces Dispersion Entropy (DispEn) as a feature extraction method for the first time in the automated detection of epileptic seizures.

Dispersion—An Entropy Generator of Diffusion

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 1998
In multicomponent gaseous flows with chemical reactions, diffusion is usually considered to be a single-source entropy generator. Introducing the concept of dispersion, where the atom balance is dominant rather than the molecular, shows in an ideal setting that, even when there is diffusion, the dispersion part of entropy generation can be reduced to ...

Topological entropy of semi-dispersing billiards

Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, 1998
In this paper we continue to explore the applications of the connections between singular Riemannian geometry and billiard systems that were first used in [6] to prove estimates on the number of collisions in non-degenerate semi-dispersing billiards. In this paper we show that the topological entropy of a compact non-degenerate semi-dispersing billiard ...

Sheets: Entropy Dissipation, Multiscale Dynamics, Dispersion, and Intercalation

Computing in Science & Engineering, 2008
In this article, a coarse-grained computer simulation for dispersing a layer of platelets in a solvent matrix after a brief introduction of a sheet's unique characteristics is described. Although our model offers a stripped-down description of a sheet and a nanocomposite, the concepts used here can be extended to other systems.

Entropy as a Measure of Dispersion

1980
As already mentioned, entropy has been used by many authors as a measure of concentration/decentralization or variation (Theil, 1967, Tribus, 1969, Kunisawa, 1975, Horowitz-Horowitz, 1976, Erlander, 1977g,, Naslund, 1977). Its usefulness as such a measure has not been universally agreed upon (see e. g.
