Demodulation of polarimetric optical fibre sensors by dispersive Fourier transform spectroscopy

open access: yes, 1998
We describe an interrogation technique for polarimetric optical fibre sensors, based on the measurement of the differential group delay between the eigenmodes of the birefringent sensing element by tandem interferometry using a low-coherence source ...

Time‐Resolved Simultaneous Mapping of Thickness and Nanoparticle Concentration in Nanofluid Thin Films via Imaging Ellipsometry and Deep‐UV Reflectance Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 12, 23 June 2026.
This study establishes a dual‐channel optical metrology framework integrating phase‐shifting imaging ellipsometry and deep‐UV reflectance imaging. This label‐free approach enables simultaneous, time‐resolved mapping of film thickness and nanoparticle (NP) concentration in dynamic nanofluid thin films.

Cladding-pumped Raman fibre laser sources

open access: yes, 2011
In this thesis, I investigate cladding-pumped Raman fibre lasers and amplifiers. Such devices, offering a novel way to generate Raman gain, combine the advantages of the hugely successful cladding-pumped rare-earth doped fibre lasers with those of ...

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 11, 5 June 2026.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Tailoring Vascular‐Immune Homeostasis via Manganese‐DNA Complex‐Armed Immunogenic Extracellular Vesicles for Pancreatic Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 35, 24 June 2026.
This study demonstrates that Mn2⁺–tumor DNA complexes encapsulated in dendritic cell (DC)– derived immunogenic extracellular vesicles (EVDC@Mn‐DNA) act as a DC‐specific cGAS– STING activator. EVDC@Mn‐DNA treatment enhances intratumoral DC activation, improves tumor vascular function, promotes CD8⁺ T cell activity, and suppresses pancreatic tumor growth,

Cells Dynamically Adapt Their Nuclear Volumes and Proliferation Rates During Single to Multicellular Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

WLI, XPS and SEM/FIB/EDS Surface Characterization of an Electrically Fluted Bearing Raceway

open access: yesLubricants
Electrical bearing currents may disturb the performance of the bearings via electro-corrosion if they surpass a limit of ca. 0.1 to 0.3 A/mm2. A continuous current flow, or, after a longer time span, an alternating current or a repeating impulse-like ...

Stimuli‐Responsive Hydrogels for Optical Applications: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
The review discusses stimuli‐responsive hydrogels as soft optical materials that translate physical, chemical, and biological cues into refractive‐index, scattering, birefringence, diffraction, and transparency changes. It examines major stimulus classes and photonic architectures for biosensing, waveguiding, adaptive lenses, smart windows, and therapy.
