Exposure risk management: Personal protective equipment and the risk of accidents occurring during aerosol generating procedures applied to COVID-19 patients.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
BackgroundCOVID-19 is considered to be very contagious as it can be spread through multiple ways. Therefore, exposure risk of healthcare workers (HCWs) treating COVID-19 patients is a highly salient topic in exposure risk management.

Nanobiosensor Based on Catalytic Palladium Nanoclusters and Oxidases for Bianalyte Electrochemical Determination: Glucose and Ethanol in Sweat

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A nanobiosensor for fast and simultaneous determination of sweat glucose and ethanol is presented. Deposited oxidase enzymes consume oxygen in the presence of the substrates, and co‐deposited palladium nanoclusters catalyze the electrochemical oxygen reduction, basis of the detection.

Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Biomimetic Copper Nanoparticles Coated with ACE2‐Overexpressing Membranes for Selective SARS‐CoV‐2 Neutralization and Disinfection

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
By fusing ACE2‐overexpressing membrane‐integrated liposome (MIL) with copper nanoparticles, the biomimetic Cu@MIL nanostructures were created that directly hijack the SARS‐CoV‐2 entry pathway. These particles combine potent virus‐targeting precision with intrinsic antiviral activity, achieving rapid neutralization and disinfection.

Can a simple ‘cost-awareness’ campaign for laparoscopic hysterectomy change the use and costs of disposable surgical supplies? Pre–post non-controlled study

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2019
Objectives Does a cost-awareness campaign for gynaecologists lead to a change in use and costs of disposable surgical supplies for laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH) without increasing hospital utilisation measures (operating room (OR) time or hospital ...

A Tri‐Culture Heart‐on‐a‐Chip Platform With iPSC‐Derived Cardiac Cells for Predictive Cardiotoxicity Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first entirely isogenic heart‐on‐chip, unifying cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells from a single iPSC source. The platform reveals a critical biological insight: the endothelium actively shields cardiac tissue from drug‐induced toxicity, challenging the predictive accuracy of conventional, avascular models for ...

Flexible Polypyrrole‐Based pH Sensors via Oxidative Chemical Vapor Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD) of polypyrrole (PPy) thin films yields flexible, electrically conductive, and biocompatible pH sensors for monitoring on‐skin biological events. The highly sensitive, oCVD PPy skin‐conformal sensors enable real‐time, spatially resolved sensing of dynamic pH changes within physiologically relevant ranges (4–9 ...
