Perhaps the fundamental concepts of physical ontology are those of objects and events; for it is widely assumed that the world itself is amenable to being characterized successfully by means of an event ontology or an object ontology, where the outstanding difficulty is simply one of finding the right sort of fit.

Political Dispositions and Dispositional Politics
2006Beyond Conventional Economics presents new original work from leading scholars on the interface between the individual and political and social institutions. Greed is an important motive: it is seen as both productive (a source of ambition; the motor of the economy) and destructive (undermining social relationships; the cause of the late 2000s financial crisis). However, relatively little is known about what greed is and does.

Determining the qualitative, comparative and quantitative properties of physical objects is widely regarded as the result of operations, i.e. of the application of procedures to n-tuples (n›0) of elements of the universe. Thus e.g., according to Hempel1, some x has less mass than some y if and only if it is true that, when the objects are placed into ...

Nitrofurantoin (50 mg) was administered in a three-way random crossover design to six healthy men. After a 45-min intravenous infusion the plasma concentration data could be described by a two-compartment open-body model with a terminal t 1/2 of 58.1 +/- 15 min. Oral availability of a tablet was 0.87 +/- 0.13 on a fasting stomach and 0.94 +/- 0.13 when

Drug development is a complex process, requiring scientific and regulatory input at almost all stages from multiple groups of expertise. Small molecule development issues are covered in other parts of this volume. This chapter is devoted to discussing the large molecules, or biologics, and the particular nuances involved in developing these molecules ...

The disposition of sulindac, a new nonsteroid anti‐inflammatory drug, has been studied in normal volunteers in five separate clinical studies. Based upon material balance considerations, a minimum of approximately 88% of an oral dose is absorbed. The major biotransformations involve irreversible oxidation of the sulfinyl group of sulindac to sulfone ...

This paper develops two ideas with respect to dispositional properties: (1) Adapting a suggestion of Sungho Choi, it appears the conceptual distinction between dispositional and categorical properties can be drawn in terms of susceptibility to finks and antidotes.

Triazolam (T) is a new, potent hypnotic with a short duration of action in man. After an 0.88-mg oral dose of T-14C in six male subjects, mean recovery of 14C radioactivity was 85% in urine and 8% in feces. The major urinary metabolites were alpha-hydroxytriazolam (alpha-HT) and 4-hydroxytriazolam (4-HT), accounting for 69% and 11% of the urinary 14C ...

Preface (1973) This lecture can be attached to a specific text within Freud's works. Inhibitions, Symptoms and Anxiety and New Introductory Lectures were two works to which I had been paying special attention while I was writing the Ernest Jones lecture. The lecture purposely avoids any mention of repression; the word nowhere occurs in it.
