4D‐Printed Spin Crossover Metamaterials with Giant Programmable Positive or Negative Thermal Expansion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spin crossover composite filaments are implemented for the rational design of 4D‐printed mechanical metamaterials. The obtained bi‐material structures guided by a theoretical analysis based on analytical calculations and Finite Element Analysis simulations exhibit giant programmable positive or negative deformation with coefficients of thermal ...

Liquids as Reinforcements for Anisotropic and Tough Soft Matter Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal droplets are shaped and oriented within soft elastomers to create all‐soft matter composites with programmable mechanical anisotropy. These liquid inclusions act as fiber‐like reinforcements, enabling directional stiffness, enhanced toughness, and controlled crack steering under extreme deformation, offering new routes to resilient soft ...

Bimetallic junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
The formation of voids through interdiffusion in bimetallic welded structures exposed to high operating temperatures is inhibited by utilizing an alloy of the parent materials in the junction of the parent materials or by preannealing the junction at an ...

Direct Mode‐Resolved Measurement of Interfacial Phonon Transport by Acoustic Phonon Reflectometry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We introduce a novel analysis, acoustic phonon reflectometry, that measures the mode‐resolved phonon reflection coefficient at semiconductor interfaces. In aluminum nitride, we observe excellent agreement with the acoustic mismatch model across three distinct interfaces.
