Macrosegregation in dissimilar-metal fusion welding [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2016
Abstract Solute segregation on a macroscopic scale in a weld between two dissimilar metals or alloys has long been recognized, but fundamental understanding of macrosegregation in dissimilar-metal welding is still lacking. Two mechanisms for macrosegregation were proposed based on the liquidus temperature of the bulk weld metal, T LW , relative ...

Atomistic Mechanisms Triggered by Joule Heating Effects in Metallic Cu‐Bi Nanowires for Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bi doped metallic Cu nanowires are promising for spintronics thanks to the stabilization of a giant spin Hall effect. However, heat resulting from current injection forces Bi to leave solution, forcing segregation into monoatomic decorations which evolve into coherent crystalline aggregates.
