Quality factor Q in dissipative anisotropic media
GEOPHYSICS, 2008In an isotropic dissipative medium, the attenuation properties of rocks are usually specified by quality factor [Formula: see text], a positive, dimensionless, real-valued, scalar quantity, independent of the direction of wave propagation. We propose a similar, scalar, but direction-dependent quality [Formula: see text]-factor (also called [Formula ...

A bacterial virulence factor that dissipates tension
Nature Cell Biology, 2009Various microbes harness the actin polymerization machinery through their surface proteins to allow intracellular motility within host cells, but other virulence factors regulate dissemination. The cortical actin tension of polarized cells may represent a physical barrier that hinders the formation of microbial protrusions during cell-to-cell spreading.

Capacitance and Dissipation Factor
2019The optimum performance of high-voltage equipment and apparatus of the electrical energy transmission depends largely on the design and quality of the insulating materials and the error-free execution of the insulation. Solid, liquid or gaseous dielectrics, also in combination, are used as insulation material.

Calibration of capacitance and dissipation factor bridges
Conference Digest Conference on Precision Electromagnetic Measurements, 2003A new method is presented for the calibration of capacitance and dissipation factor bridges. These bridges form the values indicated by them from the complex ratio of their input currents. For calibration, two sinusoidal AC currents are synthesized with the aid of a digital, programmable two-channel AC voltage source and two AC resistors and fed into ...

Dissipation factor as a systems test
1977 EIC 13th Electrical/Electronics Insulation Conference, 1977The relationship between dissipation factor and degree of cure of magnet wire insulation has been extensively investigated and well documented.1,2 The users of insulating varnishes have also been concerned with the A-C loss characteristics of these materials and have included maximum dissipation factor values in their specifications ...

Dissipation Factor of Acrylic Dielectric Elastomer—An Experimental Study
Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2014This paper studies the effects of frequency, pre-strain and electrode types on the dielectric property of a commercially available and most widely used acrylic elastomer, VHB 4910. The acrylic VHB film is pre-stretched in biaxial directions with the help of an in-house developed biaxial stretching device.

Hazards of interpretation of dissipation-factor tip-up determinations
1976 IEEE International Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1976Several contributions to the study of empirical correlation between tip-up and insulation life are reviewed, In addition to the published literature some previously unpublished field measurements made by the authors' Company are cited. Some investigators report favorable correlation while others report the contrary.

Active Circuits for Measuring Quality Factor and Dissipation Factor
IETE Journal of Education, 2015ABSTRACTHay and Schering bridges are recently reemployed for the measurement of quality factor (Q) of coils and dissipation factor (tanδ) of capacitors, respectively. After the bridge is balanced, the manual calculations involved in determining these factors are eliminated by employing a digital voltage-ratio meter.

An Anomalous Dissipation Factor Maximum in Sapphire
Journal of Applied Physics, 1963The temperature and frequency dependencies of the dielectric properties of sapphire were determined by guarded measurements within the ranges −160° to 400°C and 102 to 104 cps. A broad dissipation factor maximum, exhibiting apparently anomalous behavior, was observed.
