Research on Performance Optimization of Gravity Heat Pipe for Mine Return Air

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
The mine return air flow has the characteristics of basically constant temperature and humidity all year round and is a high-quality waste heat resource. Its direct discharge not only wastes energy but also causes environment pollution.

Dielectric Nanofluids for Transformers: A Review on Stability, Dielectric, Thermophysical, and Chemical Properties

open access: yesIEEE Access
Dielectric nanofluids are an advanced form of transformer liquid insulators with better performance as compared to traditional dielectric fluids. This review systematically examines the existing literature on stability of dielectric nanofluids, including

Simplified Estimation Method of Plastic Energy Dissipation for MDOF Systems Using Force Analogy Method

open access: yesBuildings, 2023
Plastic energy dissipation is a key factor in the response of inelastic structures subjected to seismic input, and is often regarded as a primary source of structural damage due to the inelastic deformation of structural components. Accurately predicting

Thermodynamics of quantum dissipative many-body systems

open access: yes, 1999
We consider quantum nonlinear many-body systems with dissipation described within the Caldeira-Leggett model, i.e., by a nonlocal action in the path integral for the density matrix.

Aging Mechanisms and Monitoring of Cable Polymers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2015
Aging mechanisms of two polymeric insulation materials that are used widely in nuclear power plant low-voltage cables; cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and ethylene propylene rubber/ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPR/EPDM), are reviewed.

On the scaling of temperature fluctuations induced by frictional heating

open access: yes, 2015
The temperature fluctuations generated by viscous dissipation in an isotropic turbulent flow are studied using direct numerical simulation. It is shown that their scaling with Reynolds number is at odds with predictions from recent investigations.

Ultra-high Q Acoustic Resonance in Superfluid 4He [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We report the measurement of the acoustic quality factor of a gram-scale, kilo-hertz frequency superfluid resonator, detected through the parametric coupling to a superconducting niobium microwave cavity.

Energy flows in vibrated granular media

open access: yes, 1998
We study vibrated granular media, investigating each of the three components of the energy flow: particle-particle dissipation, energy input at the vibrating wall, and particle-wall dissipation.

Non-Destructive Characterization of Drywall Moisture Content Using Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy

open access: yesSensors
Despite its wide acceptance, one of the most critical limitations of Terahertz wave technology is its high sensitivity to moisture. This limitation can, in turn, be exploited for use in moisture detection applications.

Force-gradient-induced mechanical dissipation of quartz tuning fork force sensors used in atomic force microscopy

open access: yes, 2011
We have studied the dynamics of quartz tuning fork resonators used in atomic force microscopy taking into account mechanical energy dissipation through the attachment of the tuning fork base.
