Operator growth in open quantum systems: lessons from the dissipative SYK

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We study the operator growth in open quantum systems with dephasing dissipation terms, extending the Krylov complexity formalism of [1]. Our results are based on the study of the dissipative q-body Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK q ) model, governed by the ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Interior penalty discontinuous galerkin methods for electromagnetic and acoustic wave equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Introduction: In this thesis we present and analyze the numerical approximation of the second order electromagnetic and acoustic wave equation by the interior penalty (IP) discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method (FEM).

Spectral analysis of q-fractional Sturm-Liouville operators

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2017
In this article, we study q-fractional Sturm-Liouville operators. Using by the functional method, we pass to a new operator. Then, showing that this operator is a maximal operator and constructing a self-adjoint dilation of the maximal dissipative ...

Spectral Analysis of -Sturm-Liouville Problem with the Spectral Parameter in the Boundary Condition

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces and Applications, 2012
This paper is concerned with -Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem in the Hilbert space with a spectral parameter in the boundary condition. We construct a self-adjoint dilation of the maximal dissipative -difference operator and its incoming and ...

Third quantization of open quantum systems: Dissipative symmetries and connections to phase-space and Keldysh field-theory formulations

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2023
The connections between standard theoretical tools used to study open quantum systems can sometimes seem opaque. Whether it is a Lindblad master equation, the equation of motion for the Wigner function, or a dissipative Keldysh action, features evident ...

On the stability of the infinite Projected Entangled Pair Operator ansatz for driven-dissipative 2D lattices

open access: yesSciPost Physics Core, 2021
We present calculations of the time-evolution of the driven-dissipative XYZ model using the infinite Projected Entangled Pair Operator (iPEPO) method, introduced by [A. Kshetrimayum, H. Weimer and R. Orús, Nat. Commun. 8, 1291 (2017)].

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Spectral analysis of singular Hamiltonian systems with an eigenparameter in the boundary condition

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2019
In this article we study a non-self-adjoint eigenparameter dependent singular differential 1D Hamiltonian system with the singular end points a and b in the Hilbert space $L_P^2((a,b);\mathbb{C}^2)$ and we consider that this 1D Hamiltonian system is ...
