Eigenfunction for dissipative dynamic operators and the attractor of the dissipative structure

Physical Review E, 1993
This study shows that the states with the minimum dissipation rate in general dissipative dynamic systems are expressed by the eigenfunctions for the dissipative dynamic operators. These eigenfunctions are shown to constitute the self-organized and self-similar decay phase as the attractor of the dissipative structure.

Dissipative Structures in Chemical Systems

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1968
A detailed analysis is reported of the behavior of a very simple mechanism that provides an example of chemical instability with respect to free diffusion. The appearance in time of a dissipative structure may be followed, and it is verified that the new steady state which is reached is completely stable.

The stroboscopic patterns as dissipative structures

Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews, 1993
Photic stimulation of the human visual system with uniform but intermittent illumination has been recognized for well over a century to give rise to the perception of complex visual patterns and forms. A review of the literature pertaining to these "stroboscopic patterns" is presented, along with a review of theories addressing their origins.

Dissipative structures and biological rhythms

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2017
Sustained oscillations abound in biological systems. They occur at all levels of biological organization over a wide range of periods, from a fraction of a second to years, and with a variety of underlying mechanisms. They control major physiological functions, and their dysfunction is associated with a variety of physiological disorders.

Dissipative Structures and Superplasticity

MRS Proceedings, 1990
ABSTRACTThe characteristics of superplasticity are discussed from the viewpoint of irreversible thermodynamics, in particular, system evolution and the formation of dissipative structures. A mathematical model combining determinism with indeterminism is used to analyze plastic deformation and superplasticity in metals.

Instabilities associated with dissipative structure

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1970
Certain coupled conservation of mass equations, in open systems, have been shown to have instabilities in their homogeneous steady-state solutions, with subsequent stable non-homogeneous solutions ( Turing, 1952 ), and significant far from equilibrium behavior ( Prigogine, 1967b ).

Solitons as dissipative structures

International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 2004
AbstractI review here recent results regarding the excitation of nonlinear interfacial oscillations, and hence waves, at the surface of a liquid or at the interface separating two liquids when a thermal gradient is imposed or there is adsorption, and subsequent absorption in the bulk, of a (light) surfactant, hence creating tangential stresses due to ...
