Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Impact of gradient zero-valent iron pollution from steel works on soil microaggregate geochemical processes and dissipative structures

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
: Zero-valent iron (ZVI) contamination from steel works poses significant threats to soil quality and ecosystem health, particularly affecting soil microaggregates, which are fundamental to soil structure and function.

Electrodeposition of platinum metals and alloys from chloride melts [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2003
The structure of platinum metals and their alloys deposited by the electrolysis of chloride melts have been investigated. The cathodic deposits were both in the form of compact layers and dendrites.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Conditins for the Time Dissipative Structure Formation at Nonequilibrium Transitions [PDF]

open access: yesЖурнал нано- та електронної фізики, 2011
We discuss processes of the dissipative structure formation when the nonequilibrium phase transition takes place. The model is considered under assumptions that dispersion of the relaxation time of the order parameter and influence of the external force ...

Senseless Distributions: Posthumanist Antidotes to the Mass Hermit

open access: yesRelations, 2016
This essay aims at showing how the “mass hermit”, as defined by Günther Anders, is the logical point of arrival of that philosophical process which has interpreted human subjectivity as a closed system, intended as the sum of two mechanically overlapped ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Infernal Variables and Dissipative Structures

open access: yesJournal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 1990
The formalism of internal state variables is established when gradients of these variables are involved, thus allowing for a spatial localization of dissipative effects that give rise to dissipative structures. Therefore, evolution-diffusion equations, rather than usual evolution equations, are obtained.
