Infiltration of immune cells to the brain and its relation to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 168, Issue 9, Page 2316-2334, September 2024.
The disruption of the neurovascular unit and the infiltration of the peripheral immune cells into the central nervous system are hallmarks of neurodegenerative diseases. However, so far, the participation of infiltrating cells in the progression of these diseases has not been completely defined.

Comparative analysis of the effects of different purification methods on the yield and purity of cow milk extracellular vesicles

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 3, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Isolation of extracellular vesicles (EV) has been developing rapidly in parallel with the interest in EVs. However, commonly utilized protocols may not suit more challenging sample matrixes and could potentially yield suboptimal results. Knowing and assessing the pitfalls of isolation procedure to be used, should be involved to some extent for

Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness in akinetic mutism? Insights from a multimodal longitudinal exploration

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 59, Issue 5, Page 860-873, March 2024.
Here, we describe the case of a prolonged unresposiveness due to akinetic mutism (AM) which showed clinical and electroencephalographic features suggestive of unconsciousness. By employing a battery of advanced imaging and electrophysiology‐based techniques, we provided evidence of preserved consciousness, despite the absence of clinical responsiveness.

Distinct parallel activation and interaction between dorsal and ventral pathways during phonological and semantic processing: A cTBS‐fMRI study

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2024.
Our continuous theta‐burst stimulation (cTBS)‐functional magnetic resonance imaging study comprehensively elucidated the functional specificity and interaction of dorsal and ventral pathways during phonological and semantic processing. cTBS was applied to the left inferior parietal lobule (dorsal), anterior temporal lobe (ventral), and sham (baseline).
