Carbon of Dissolved Organic Matter in the Ocean

1984
Organic matter is present in the world ocean in diverse dispersive and phase states. Because of methodological limitations of isolation and quantitative analysis, OM is classified at present in the majority of works only as dissolved and particulate (suspended).

Dynamics of Pools of Dissolved Organic Carbon

1984
Bacteria living and growing in the plankton of marine waters are clearly doing so at the expense of organic matter in the dissolved state. In recent years our understanding of this process has improved greatly. This paper will explore the interaction of bacteria and dissolved organic matter from an ecological viewpoint.

The marine biogeochemistry of dissolved organic carbon and dissolved organic nutrients in the Atlantic Ocean [PDF]

open access: possible, 2007
The marine biogeochemistry of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) has come underincreased scrutiny because of its involvement in the global carbon cycle andconsequently climate change. Dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) and phosphorus(DOP), which have historically been ignored because of their suggested “biologicalunavailability”, have now received greater ...

Dissolved Organic Carbon from Phytoplankton

2005
Dissolved organic carbon in the sea makes up some 700 gigatons according to conservative estimates. Even more important is the labile part, which constitutes more than 50% of newly produced DOC. The source of DOC production in the sea is photosynthetic algae.
