Oceanographic Profiling Observations from the MOCE-3 Cruise: 27 October to 15 November 1994 [PDF]
This report contains results from the third cruise of the Marine Optical Characterization Experiment (Fig. 1). A variety of spectroradiometric observations of the upper water column and atmosphere were made by investigators from the University of Miami ...

Preface: Impacts of extreme climate events and disturbances on carbon dynamics [PDF]
The impacts of extreme climate events and disturbances (ECE&D) on the carbon cycle have received growing attention in recent years. This special issue showcases a collection of recent advances in understanding the impacts of ECE&D on carbon cycling ...

Recent Progress in Oxide‐Based Na‐Ion Conductors
Recent advances in oxide‐based sodium‐ion conductors are reviewed, focusing on β/β″‐alumina, NASICON‐type compounds, and Na5YSi4O12‐type (N5) silicates, together with emerging perovskite and layered oxides. Improvements in ionic conductivity, compositional tuning, and processing are highlighted.

Aged black carbon identified in marine dissolved organic carbon [PDF]
Produced on land by incomplete combustion of organic matter, black carbon (BC) enters the ocean by aerosol and river deposition. It has been postulated that BC resides in the marine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) pool before sedimentary deposition and may attribute to its great 14C age (1500–6500 14C years).

Bioavailability of soil organic carbon and Fe as influenced by forestry practices in a subtropical coastal catchment [PDF]
Potential impacts of plantation forestry practices on soil organic carbon and Fe available to microorganisms were investigated in a subtropical coastal catchment. The impacts of harvesting or replanting were largely limited to the soil top layer (0–10 cm

Removal of disinfection by-product precursors by coagulation and an innovative suspended ion exchange process [PDF]
This investigation aimed to compare the disinfection by-product formation potentials (DBPFPs) of three UK surface waters (1 upland reservoir and 2 lowland rivers) with differing characteristics treated by (a) a full scale conventional process and (b ...

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

Earthquake-enhanced dissolved carbon cycles in ultra-deep ocean sediments
Hadal trenches are unique geological and ecological systems located along subduction zones. Earthquake-triggered turbidites act as efficient transport pathways of organic carbon (OC), yet remineralization and transformation of OC in these systems are not

Shifts in biogenic carbon flow from particulate to dissolved forms under high carbon dioxide and warm ocean conditions [PDF]
Photosynthesis by phytoplankton in sunlit surface waters transforms inorganic carbon and nutrients into organic matter, a portion of which is subsequently transported vertically through the water column by the process known as the biological carbon pump (
