FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL HUMERUS
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2000The quality of elbow function after fracture of the distal humerus is related to the degree to which normal anatomic relationships are restored. This article addresses the issues related to fractures of the distal humerus, including challenges, controversies, surgical exposure, postoperative management, and complications.

Management of distal humerus fractures
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology, 2020Distal humeral fractures represent approximately 2% of fractures in adults and are often treated operatively to restore stable humeral columns and allow early elbow motion. Diagnosis is made with orthogonal radiographs. The traction view radiograph and computed tomography with three-dimensional reconstruction can be helpful in preoperative planning ...

Fractures of the distal humerus in adults have traditionally presented a treatment challenge for the orthopedic surgeon. The combination of anatomic complexity, multifragmentary comminution, and a short distal segment, often in the setting of osteoporotic bone, renders these fractures difficult to treat successfully and often make a full restoration of

FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL HUMERUS
Orthopedics, 1992ABSTRACT We present a rational approach to the classification and surgical management of intraarticular fractures of the distal humerus. The fractures are classified on the basis of the surgical anatomy of the distal humerus, which is divided into two skeletal columns held together by the trochlea.

Intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus are among the most challenging fractures to manage. Nonoperative treatment, although appropriate for some patients, often leads to loss of motion and unsatisfactory functional outcomes. Over the last 2 decades, enhanced operative techniques and implant designs have improved the reduction and stability of ...

Comminuted Fractures of the Distal Humerus
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1963Treatment of severely comminuted fractures of the elbow long has been a subject of controversy, and basically is represented by two schools of thought: the school that favors closed methods, and the one that prefers open methods. This report primarily reviews the methods of treatment of these fractures and secondarily presents the results of the ...

Elbow Fractures: Distal Humerus
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2009A distal humerus fracture can be a debilitating and difficult injury to treat. The anatomy of the distal humerus is highly complex, as it articulates with both the radius and ulna and allows for motion in multiple planes. Furthermore, comminution and osteopenia may render the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction weak, making adequate stabilization difficult.

Transcondylar Fractures of the Distal Humerus
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 1989We classify transcondylar fractures of the distal humerus into four groups: undisplaced; simple displaced; T-type; and fracture dislocations (Posada's fracture). Our treatment of these fractures is based upon this classification. Undisplaced fractures are treated with immobilization. Displaced fractures are reduced and stabilized with internal fixation.

Treatment of Distal Humerus Fractures
Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2008The elbow is a complex joint and is vital in positioning the hand in space. We believe that open reduction internal fixation offers the best chance for return to function following intra-articular fractures of the distal humerus. We advocate the following principles for the effective treatment of these injuries: identification and protection of the ...

Distal humerus fractures, like many other fractures, occur in a bimodal distribution of young and elderly patients. The difference in mechanism results in a variety of fracture patterns, which can be complex. Classification systems can delineate these fractures and may suggest potential surgical treatment approaches.
